Fast Start Imperative
The Bills are one of the league's fastest starting teams and rank No. 3 in the NFL with 75 first-quarter points (the Jets rank No. 26 with 37 points). The Green & White need to be within striking distance of Buffalo after the first frame to avoid playing from behind, which did not happen the last time QB Mike White played the Bills (Week 10 last season).

White threw for 251 yards, 0 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while completing 54.5% of his passes.

"I'm sure there's a lot of things that he learned from even in that moment just to take his game forward from that moment on to where we are now," HC Robert Saleh said. "The game was going OK in the first half, we were moving the ball, we just weren't able to score. … They scored right before the half [to make it 17-3]. Then scored right out of the locker room, now we're down 24-3. Then we throw an interception and now it's 31-3, just like that.

"Now you're chucking it all over the place and doing what you really don't want to do, which is push the ball downfield in a desperate frame of mind, and when you're playing a top defense like that, you're probably going to turn the ball over. It was one of those games that kind of snowballed on the entire team, not just him. He was put in a really bad situation."

In two games with White starting at QB this season, the Jets have totaled 10 first-quarter points, the same as Buffalo in that span.
In two games this season, White has thrown for 684 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 picks, both against the Vikings. He's one of three players since 1950 with 120-plus completions and 1,400-plus passing yards through 5 career starts (Kirk Cousins and Justin Herbert are the others).

Takeaways and Third Down
Buffalo is on both ends of the turnover scale. The offense has 20 giveaways, tied for No. 29 in the NFL; and 20 takeaways, which is tied for fourth. The Jets are tied for No. 12 in the league with 15 takeaways but have 1 takeaway over their last two games. The last time these teams played, the Jets picked off Allen twice.
The Jets need to improve on third down for a chance to win on Sunday. The Vikings converted 50% on third down against the Green & White's defense in Week 13 and Buffalo leads the league, converting 59.3% on the money down while the Jets defense ranks No. 19 (41.9%).

"Third down is the money down, it has to get better," Saleh said.

Lineup Changes
In Week 9, the two teams were missing starters.

Buffalo played without three starters on defense – S Jordan Poyer, who leads the team with 4 interceptions; LB Matt Milano; and All-Pro CB Tre'Davious White. But the defense is without All-Pro pass rusher Von Miller, who leads the Bills with 8 sacks. The offense was without starting LT Dion Dawkins and RT Spencer Brown in Week 9, they are expected to play Sunday.

The Jets, on the other hand, were without WR Corey Davis, whose 445 yards ranks second on the team. The Green & White were also without T George Fant, who was on injured reserve.

The Jets were also without AVT and Breece Hall.
I think Bam has a good game, but with Milano back for the Bills, that guy is always all over the place, it’s going to be tougher this time round to run the ball.

'Miracle' is a bit strong. Just a typical NFL game where 'on any given Sunday'.....

I can appreciate that! We definitely have the team to do it but can they? Yes they did it earlier this year but that was with Zach, in NY/NJ and he played the perfect game manager type game. It appears they are definitely opening up the playbook more for MW or he’s just executing the same plays ten times better.

With that said, there is the possibility for more ints the more MW throws the ball. So will they play it close to the vest like they did with Zach or will they open it up more? With this game being in Buffalo, I don’t think playing it close to the vest will work. The Jets are going to have to open it up and challenge that Bills defense.

Can MW do it without the ints and they actually score 2-3 TDs? I honestly think he can but I’m still VERY NERVOUS about this one. I had ALOT more confidence in the Vikings game and they played tuff, tooth and nail but still came up short. We really can’t have that this week. We need that W to truly stay in this playoff race.

we haven’t lost 2 in a row all season….. I think LaFluer will come up with a decent game plan against Buffalo. The playoffs wont hinge in this game….. but we will need to win against DET, Jax, and Seattle (all doable) and everything will hinge on the last game against Miami. That being said….. Buff 21- Jets 13 I’m going oppo and praying for a win…..

That’s a tough place to play for sure. Bills Mafia remembers the last game. I expect a rowdy stadium.

We have to start better offensively than last week. Cannot get behind on the road and have to fight your way back against Allen. FG’s aren’t keeping this game close. Gotta be much better in the red zone. This will be a tough game to win, but I think the Jets have shown the ability to beat anyone if they’re playing complimentary football.

Milano is back and that’s huge for the Bills. But no Von Miller. Big injury there.
And I think I read Milano is still a bit hobbled with either a leg or knee that isn’t fully healed. Hopefully just enough to slow him down a bit.

Yes, I don’t wish injury on anyone, but I’d be ok with Milano being a last minute scratch. He’s a big part of that D.

The first half will tell the story. The Bills will try to establish an early lead and build momentum. Jets will have to survive this and keep it a one score game. Keep the penalties down and no turnovers. If that happens it will be a down to the fourth quarter war. The best CBS broadcasters, Romo and Nantz are calling this one. LaFluer might have to get creative calling this one. I like our chances but if it gets out of hand early, it will be too much to overcome.

I completely disagree with how the journalists are pining this as Mike White's payback time against the Bills. I sure hope that he doesn't feel extra pressure to play exceptional. The Jets haven't succeeded much in payback games this year. Denver? Perhaps Miami? well I don't know. NE? we know how that went. It's another game against a divisional opponent on their turf. Save the paybacks for next year when we're expected to win.

Yeah the media wants to hype up as much as they can. “Mike White’s redemption game!” Stop.

It’s a big divisional game that can put the Jets in a great position if they win. We all know what has to happen: play the same D we have been, take away Diggs, limit Allen’s running, and have success running the football so White doesn’t have to be a hero. Is it possible? Abso-fucking-lutely.

One of the main reasons people watch sports is because sports are exciting. [Ed.: Duh, dude.] Yesterday's World Cup soccer games [12/09/2022] were excellent examples. Even newcomers to that sport had to be entranced by the struggle of evenly-matched teams locked in win-or-go-home struggles. There was nail-biting suspense right up to the last penalty kick.

So what's in store for those of us who will watch the New York Jets play the Bills tomorrow? The odds guys are pegging the score at a 9 point differential, with our Guys in Green on the short end of the stick. 9 lousy points, man. That's a bummer as far as a down-to-the-wire game goes. Now, I like to believe that the unexpected can happen, but I've also got a professional history heavy in statistics. Tomorrow's game doesn't exactly shape up to go into OT, if you get my drift.

What to do? There's still great Jets stuff to watch. The defense team is one of the best, and while they're going to have a long and tiring afternoon, they still may do some really good things defending the red zone. Each TD denied the Bills is a small triumph, and reason to celebrate. We may see an interception, cause to pop the top on a fresh brewskie. There may also be some offensive plays which are pure textbook examples of how it should be done. Each is worthy of stuffing away in our wetware for recall at some later date. "Remember, against the Bills last year, when . . . ".

And then there's just the pleasure of watching a bunch of players suited up in Jets uniforms, playing their best against a probable 2023 Super Bowl team and not losing heart. That should count for something.

Something?

That should count for a lot!

Go, Gang Green!
