The fans deserve better than a team that only makes headlines and history for the wrong reasons. It would be poetic justice for the Jets to save their season (they’re currently floundering at 0-3) and shatter the Eagles curse all with one big win on Sunday.
Unfortunately, that scenario is unlikely. The Jets remains absolutely devastated by injuries. While the team hopes to have rookie defensive lineman Quinnen Williams (ankle) back, C.J. Mosley (groin) is unlikely to be cleared for the game.
Even more importantly, early reports are mixed as to whether or not Sam Darnold will be able to play in the Eagles game. Although he has been cleared for non-contact activity, the Jets quarterback is a long way from being cleared for game action.
Odds are that third-stringer Luke Falk will again be under center this Sunday. It’s not the news that Jets fans want to hear, but benching Darnold for another week (or longer) is the right call.
The last thing the Jets should do is put their health compromised franchise quarterback behind a porous offensive line on the off chance that he may be able to save their season.
The odds will be heavily against the Jets if they don’t have Darnold. However, if Le’Veon Bell and the defense play out of their minds, the Jets may still stand a small chance against the Eagles.
More likely, the floundering Jets and their injury decimated roster will be unable to break the losing streak against Philadelphia this time.
The fans may have to wait a little longer, holding out hope that someday Darnold will be healthy and the savior that the franchise desperately needs.
And if there’s one thing Jets fans are good at, it’s waiting.
