If Flynn had been on Jets' Wk 1 roster, entire salary would not have been gtd b/o previously claimed termination pay. Not case w/ Johnson.

Not having a veteran backup may just be a week to week thing for the #Jets to avoid guar. for someone who wont be there when Smith is back

I don't think they do. They're just taking a risk for 3-4 weeks . I think it's worth the gamble

Jets have to carry an extra CB b/c of Milliner, extra DL b/c of Sheldon and possibly extra WR b/c of Smith. That creates a squeeze.

Makes some sense re:QBs. They could just roll w/ Fitzpatrick & Petty in Week 1 and then grab a no. 2/3 QB on non-guaranteed salary
