Official NY Jets @ NY Giants Game Thread

I know its way too early, we're still celebrating the Miami win, but I have something to say about Jets vs Giants and it can't wait, it must be said, and it can't be said enough this week, and I hope Bowles and Kacey Rogers are saying it too.

WE MUST DOUBLE TEAM ODELL BECKHAM!!!!

You put Revis on him (if he's healthy), and a safety over the top ... on every play ... for the whole game.

If we make the mistake we made with Landry today, basically leaving their only real playmaker in single coverage, we will experience similar results, only worse because Beckham is a threat to take it the distance every time he touches the ball.

SO PLEASE take a page out of Bill Belichick's playbook, take their best player out of the game, or at least don't let him WRECK THE GAME and force the Giants to beat you with their next best options, none of whom are even in the same universe as Beckham. DON'T LET THEIR BEST PLAYER BEAT YOU. THAT IS ALL.

GO JETS!!!

Mods, maybe you can un-stick some of the threads that are old news now, like the Jets Game Highlights from last week, perhaps the Jets/Miami game thread too (or perhaps its too soon, thats your call), and stick this one.

I stickied this replacing the Miami gameday thread. I left the highlight thread up as that is where GMF updates all highlights and not just that week's game.

As for the Jets- Giants game! I am pumped. I would love for this team to come out firing on all cylinders and absolute destroy these phonies.

The Giants are not very good, but they seem to have our number, and they don't die. They usually mount some type of comeback. We can beat them, but we will have to have a good, clean, game.

Giants have owed us as of late. Hopefully the Jets can use that to fuel a victory.

If we take a page out of Pats book then Revis would go on their #2WR; and Cro + Gilchrist defends ODB. I'd be okay with that page.

Other key to the game defensively will be pressure on Eli. He makes plays, but he also makes mistakes. If we can get consistent pressure, hopefully that will lead to a couple of turnovers which could be the difference in the game.

We can do that too, but I don't want Cromartie anywhere's near Odell Beckham, not even with help.

The Giants can't run the ball at all. Not need to worry about that.
Exactly, and they don't have a #2 WR who scares anyone either, or an elite TE, thats why you have to have rocks for brains if you go into that game with any game-plan that does not include double-teaming Odell Beckham on every play. Thats the ONE GUY they have who can single-handedly beat you, who can WRECK THE GAME, if you let him.

Thanks for the correction.

I completely misunderstood what that thread was. I thought it was weekly highlights from last week.

Other than our own game, these are the games with serious AFC Wildcard implications next week.

(6-5) TEXANS @ (5-6) BILLS

Its in our best interest to root for the Bills.

(6-5) CHIEFS @ (5-6) RAIDERS

Its in our best interest to root for the Raiders.

(6-5) COLTS @ (6-5) STEELERS

Houston is in a fight with Indy for the AFC South Division Title, both 6-5 with Indy owning the tiebreaker, so its very possible that we will ultimately be challenging Indy and not Houston for the Wildcard. That said, we own the H2H tiebreaker over Indy, its one of the few that we own, so it behooves us to root for the Colts in this one, its better if Pittsburgh a game behind us provided we beat the Giants, but its not as clear-cut.

Bottom line: Indy or Houston will win the AFC South, so ultimately we'll only be batting one of them for a Wildcard, not both, and ideally Houston will win that division because we own the first tiebreaker over Indy, so if Houston does beat Buffalo, then its probably to our benefit if Pittsburgh beats Indy, or maybe its still better if Pittsburgh loses, tough to say.

Good post Ham. If we win next week, I surely believe that we'll be at the top of the wild card race once again. Just win baby!

I am rooting for the bills Bc we play them again later this year and can put them away ourselves.

If the Texans beat Buffalo and the Steelers beat Indy, that would have its upside too. Its not preferable, I would rather the opposite in both games, but there's a possible upside to Texans over Bills and Steelers over Colts.

If that happens, the Texans leap Indy for first place in the AFC South, so now we're competing with Indy for the Wildcard, not Houston, and we own the H2H tiebreaker over Indy, but Houston owns the H2H tiebreaker over us, so ultimately we're better off if Houston wins the AFCS and we are competing with Indy for a Wildcard. Also, a Colts loss and a Jets win would essentially put us 1.5 Games ahead of Indy for the WC, the half game representing the H2H tiebreaker, because we would be 7-5 and they would be 6-6.

So we would leap right into the #6 Seed if that happens, because we have a slight edge over Pittsburgh in the conference tiebreaker, which we would go to because there is no H2H with the Jets and Steelers.

Also we would stay a game ahead of Buffalo.

Lastly, if the Raiders beat the Chiefs we would leap KC for the #5 Seed in the WC standings and stay a game ahead of Oakland, and if KC beats Oakland we're #6 and we open a two game lead on the Raiders.

So its complicated and the Texans winning combined with the Colts losing can actually work in our favor.

Its good and bad that these teams are all playing each other next week, somebody has to win those games, but also somebody has to lose them. That said, IMO its more good for us than bad, provided we win our game.

This stuff only matters if WE WIN, but if we lose, its pretty much all moot.
