They lost a close one in Atlanta to start the season and then they were soundly beaten by a wounded Cowboys team in their home opener. You all know what that means, right?

Yep, it means we're getting their A-Game on Sunday, on a short week no less, and we better be ready for it, because we are walking into a buzzsaw and nothing less than our best will suffice.

Thats just the way it works in this league. If you've been following this league for any length of time you should know that. Its always tough to beat a good team after they've lost, but especially when they drop the first two, because they know 0-3 teams that make the playoffs are exceedingly rare in the NFL, it happens about as often as a total eclipse of the sun, so they are playing to save their season this week.

Only the novice fan looks at the first two weeks and expects to see the same Eagles team Dallas saw last week, the one that rolled over and died.

THATS FOOLS GOLD.

What we have coming into MetLife on Sunday is a wounded animal, out for blood. The coach is in a bad mood, the players are in a bad mood, their fans are in a bad mood, even the Philly beat reporters are mocking them and impugning their character, while the national media has all but written them off, so their facility will be a miserable place to be around this week and come Sunday they will literally be frothing at the mouth to take out their frustrations on the Jets.

Meanwhile the media is throwing rose pedals at the feet of the Jets and in two weeks they've leaped us from he late 20's all the way to the TOP 10 in their power rankings. This is whats known as fattening up the calf for the slaughter.

That doesn't mean we can't win, but we better not read our own press clippings and think 2-0 means we've arrived, or next week we'll be 2-1 and the media will be searching for their next victim. Just look at the way they hyped up Buffalo last week, following their destruction of Indy, and notice how Rex ate it up, even encouraged it, and whipped that town into a frenzy. Between Rex and the media they had the Bills believing they were the 85 Bears about to drop the hammer on the Patriots in SB XX, then Sunday came and they got their absolute heads handed to them in their own building.

There's a cautionary tale to be found in that story my friends, about the dangers of thinking you've arrived before you have actually accomplished anything. 2-0 is nice, it beats 0-2 or 1-1, but we've got a long way to go and the last time I looked 2 Wins has never won a division title or gotten anyone to the playoffs. Its still 2 less wins than we had last year.

If we wanna be 3-0 we better take the Eagles serious, expect their best shot, and be ready to answer it.

This is not a concession speech. Its not like we can't or shouldn't beat this team, but I can promise you this, if we bring anything less than our A-Game, if we don't match their intensity and come with the same sense of urgency, if we are not equally as desperate to get this win, then we will not win this football game, we will have fell right into the medias trap and blew a golden opportunity to start 3-0, and then the same media that was singing our praises will be calling us overrated, one hit wonders verses Indy, the Same Old Jets, and the search for their next victim commences.

I hope thats the message Coach Bowles sends to his team this week, because it happens to be true.

My biggest negative and has me concerned is we had 5 TO's and could only manage 20 pts. on an awful secondary and defense. We have to score more to help the defense.

Agreed, if there is something to be disappointed about from that game, that would be it, we didn't take advantage of five turnovers and a tremendous defensive effort, left too much meat on the bone and gave those guys a chance to steal a game we had dominated. The defense was unbelievable, but the offense needs to develop more of a killer instinct. When the defense keeps getting you the ball back in good field position, you have to turn that into points.

The good news is, they know that, they were all saying the same thing after the game. Fitz and Marshall both acknowledged that they left too many points on the field. They weren't satisfied because we won.

Bowles deserves a ton of credit for that, he's given this team a real professional mindset, its Patriots-like, they don't get too excited over wins, always talking about the need to get better, and always turning their attention to the next game.

Desperate yes.
Dangerous? Nah!
I was kind of mesmerized by what Chip Kelly was doing , now I know, it's clueless in Philadelphia.
I'm not sweating this team and I don't think they have a plan to get straightened out.
It's on to Miami.

Ham, for fear of getting ahead of only two games thus far, I have a strong confidence that Todd Bowles will make the necessary adjustments to whatever Philadelphia will throw at us. So much trust in this team. I think the media is reaching when they are complaining about the Jets offense. For the first time in a long while I truly believe we are "team"

Me too, Coper, but I had to start a thread to mirror last weeks thread because, well, you know :)

It is the vintage trap game and a game we lose 100% of the time under Rex. But the players reactions to last night's victory were interesting and encouraging. The offense was actually pissed off at their performance, and the defense was low key and already looking to Philly. I do not see the yo-yo emotional swings on this team as in the past as they adapt and mimic Bowles demeanor. In addition. after watching Philly the first two weeks it is entirely possible they they are just bad. Bradford has been awful, but awful in a self inflicted way. He is tentative confused and slow as QB. With his mobility, if he continues like they against us it could go epic-ly bad for them. A big test for the Jets though, no doubt.

We were 4-12 last season, so I just do not know how we could be sleeping on the Eagles. We're 2-0 NOT 16-0. If the Jets players would actually over look the Eagles coming off the horrendous season we had just one year ago? That's just beyond my comprehension. I don't believe it is possible.

But if you're right? I think Todd Bowles should cut someone important on the team and show the players that no one's job is that safe.

Agreed! That's why I posted after the Indy game that the win was all on the defense IMO. The offense didnt do enough to help the D. The offense should have put that game away by the third quarter with another 6-10 points. Offense has to do more or the D will start to wear down and there still 14 games left, besides the playoffs. They did in the Indy game and gave up the 7 points IMO. With that fast paced, quick strike offense in Phila the Jets have to score I say three TDs off their own drives. With that and the D hopefully causing 2-3 TOs, hopefully the offense converts field goals at least out of those. That also combined of hitting Bradford the whole dame game, should amount to a W for the Jets.

Alonso, Kendricks and Thornton are some big ones, those are big losses, but you saw how teams compensate in the NFL and find a way to complete, so you can never count on injuries to win you a game. The Colts were absolutely depleted at Corner, especially after Davis went out, and we made some plays against their Corners, but its not like we lit them up, even Marshall praised the young Colts CB's for how hard they competed. The Eagles will show up, thats for sure. :)

We had at least 4 drops and Ivory looked like he wasn't playing at 100%. It was also pretty clear we were forcing it to Marshall at times, which is a small price to pay for FINALLY having an elite receiver that often wins those toss-ups.

Not excuses, just observations that IMO somewhat explain why some drives stalled without points. We still scored on 4/9 drives and are only two weeks into the season.

We were never going to be the greatest show on turf anyway, so if Fitz can consistently provide what he did Monday night, just show me where to sign . . .

Ten things to know about the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Jets' opponent on Sunday at MetLife Stadium:

1. File this under "all-time quirky stats." The Jets have never -- repeat, never -- defeated the Eagles in a regular-season game. The mark is 0-9, the last loss coming in 2011 -- the 45-19 blowout in which Santonio Holmes made a fool of himself by flapping his arms like an eagle after a meaningless touchdown. So, yeah, the Jets could make history this week. The Eagles are the only team they've never beaten.

2. The underachieving Eagles could be facing more scrutiny this week than any team in the league. They were positively dreadful in a 20-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, falling to 0-2 for the first time since 2007. Fans and media in Philly still are trying to figure out of Chip Kelly is a used-car salesman or a genius whose handiwork has yet to take shape. Right now, it's looking like the former. He ripped apart the roster in the offseason, unloading running back LeSean McCoy, quarterback Nick Foles, key offensive linemen and others. Angry Eagles fans (are there any other kind?) will note that Kelly has dropped five of his last six regular-season games, dating to last December's collapse.

3. The Jets are on some kind of roll, as they will face yet another opponent dealing with some degree of turmoil. Previously, they faced the Cleveland Browns (suspended offensive-line coach) and the Indianapolis Colts (reported rift between the coach and general manager). Didn't the Jets used to be these teams?

4. Journalists don't root for teams, but we do root for storylines. That said, wouldn't it be cool if Mark Sanchez gets a chance to face his former team? Kelly is sticking with Sam Bradford for now, but you have to think he'd go to the bullpen if the offense continues to sputter. Sanchez was supposed to lead the Jets for more than decade, but stuff happened, including a senseless shoulder injury in a meaningless preseason game (August, 2013). His starting record was 4-4 for the Eagles last season (88.4 passer rating), as he played well enough to survive the Kelly purge. He signed a two-year, $9 million contract, but was passed over for the starting job when Kelly traded for Bradford. Even if Sanchez doesn't play, it'll be weird seeing him on the opposite sideline. His successor, Geno Smith, also will be on the sideline, making it doubly weird.

5. Bradford looked hopeless against the Cowboys. He threw two interceptions, missed open receivers and finished with a 5.3 QBR, which pretty much says it all. Get this: He didn't complete a pass thrown more than one yard past the line of scrimmage until the second half, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The Eagles had only 21 total yards in the first half, their lowest since 1994. And to think, Kelly is supposed to be an offensive whiz. He gave Bradford a vote of confidence, but what did you expect him to say? It would've been a self-indictment if he had benched Bradford after only two games.

6. DeMarco Murray has been one of the biggest disappointments in the league. After trading McCoy, the Eagles stole Murray from the Cowboys, signing him to a five-year, $40 million contract in free agency. So far, he's off to a historically bad start -- 11 rushing yards on 21 carries. The 11-yard total represents the fewest in the first two games for a defending rushing champion in nearly 80 years, according to Elias. In 1936, Doug Russell rushed for 11 yards for the Chicago Cardinals, the only two games he played that year. Murray doesn't appear to be a good fit in Kelly's scheme. Consider: 18 of his 21 carries have been from the shotgun. The Cowboys didn't use him that way. In Dallas, only 36 rushes last season came in the shotgun. Earth to Chip: It might be a good time to tweak the scheme.

7. But let's not blame it all on Murray. His blocking has been non-existent, and that goes on Kelly, who dumped his starting guards in the offseason. He replaced Evan Mathis and Todd Herremans with a pair of journeymen, Jason Gardner and Allen Barbre. The run blocking has been so poor that Murray has been hit at or behind the line of scrimmage on 10 of his 21 carries, according to ESPN Stats. It has to be culture shock for Murray, who went from perhaps the best offensive line in the NFL to one of the worst.

8. It happens every year in free agency: A team falls in love with a complementary player from a Super Bowl team and dramatically overpays. It's the Larry Brown Syndrome. The Eagles did it with former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell, whom they landed with a six-year, $63 million contract. So far, Maxwell has allowed 14 completions for 253 yards and two touchdowns, according to Pro Football Focus. On Sunday, he played non-competitive coverage on Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams, who burned him for a 42-yard touchdown on a basic slant route. Worse, Maxwell made a half-hearted effort to chase him down.

9. As if the Eagles don't have enough worries, they have injury issues. Linebacker Kiko Alonso, whom they acquired in the McCoy trade, sprained his surgically repaired ACL and won't play on Sunday. Fellow inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) is iffy for the game.

10. The Jets should be worried about one aspect of the Eagles -- their up-tempo offense. They run a play from scrimmage every 30.6 seconds in real time, the fastest offense in the league, according to ESPN Stats. That could be physically taxing for an opponent on a short week, like the Jets.

Just remember what happened last time we played them. They were a preseason favorite who was underachieving at 5-8. We were 8-5 and seemingly headed for the playoffs (didn't quite work out that way), then they kicked our butts all over the Lincoln Financial Field turf. 45-19, and from what I recall of the beat down, it wasn't even that close.

We will be favored and the game is at home, but there are no easy wins in the NFL. Hopefully Bowles will have them ready -- the Eagles will be desperate.

And, the Eagles are the only team we have never beaten in our history. I believe we are 0-9 all time against them.

The Colts DB's were grabbing onto Marshall all game. They couldn't stay with him. An elite QB would've exploited that even more.

Not complaining, as I'm happy with Fitzpatrick. But their CB position stood no chance against our guys.

Ham - I agree with most of what your saying here. This Philly team is a LOT better than they looked Sunday. There's several proud veterans on this team that have to be really disgusted with the way these last 2 weeks turned out. Bowles needs to have the team prepared.

As for the Jets not scoring a lot after the turnovers Monday, I'm not reading a whole lot into that.
Chan went into Ultra-conservative mode because I dont think he fully trusts Fitz just yet.
But you saw what happened on that drive right after Indy scored right?

Every 4 years when we play the NFC East, I look forward to the Eagles game in particular because as mentioned,
the Eagles are the only active NFL franchise the Jets have never beaten in a regular season game. 0-9: Damn!! I'm hoping that Goose egg goes away this Sunday.
On paper they look ripe for the picking, but like you said..........

I think the biggest key for this game is for D to get off the field on 3rd down.
Chip Kelly is going to stick with that fast moving offense no matter what. If they exucute on 3rd down
and keep moving the sticks, at that pace our defense will be dragging thier knuckles by halftime. zombiewalker
However - If the Jets D can get the 3 & Outs it'll will have the reverse effect on the Eagles D as they'll have almost no time to catch a breather on the Sidelines.
Must limit stupid Defensive penalties!! Nothing drives me bat-shit more than having 3rd and long and then getting hit with a stupid 5-yarder and automatic first.:smiley-violent036::facepalm-hand-gestu

If the Jets D gets off the field on 3rd down and are ++ in the turnover ratio we should be ok.:watching-sports-smi

Not sure what this "forcing balls to Marshall" is about. He had 7 catches, out of 10 targets. When a WR is being forced balls you see stats like 4 catches for 12 targets. It's not like Fitz is trying to throw balls into tight windows. He's getting open a lot.

That and the fact that they are using a strategy in the red zone that I actually like. Seems like Fitz red zone progression is going to be , look for Decker out of the slot over the middle, if not open, and there is heat coming, throw a jump ball to Marshall.

He's going to win an awful lot of them for TD's.

If we thought balls were being forced to Marshall last week, wait till you see what happens this week with both Decker an Owusu hurt. Don't know Fitz will have much of a choice.

Think we are going to see an even more conservative game plan this week then last week. If Ivory isn't 100%, put Stacy out there
