I think whoever wrote this is crazy in thinking we'd get a second round pick for BP. Hes a good player but hes also brittle and misses a lot of time with injury. He's relatively young and a good fit for a team like Detroit but that guys smoking if he thinks wed get a second, maybe same for a third. I think a fourth, or a fourth and sixth would be his market price. I would however be thrilled if we got a third for him.

IF we were offered a third for him , you take that deal and run. Then we'd end up drafting a guy like Michel or Chubb from Georgia, or u can even take 1 of those and throw in a bruiser like scarbrough and load up our RB pipeline. Not sure we'd trade him but for a third, I think wed be stupid not to

Ok, I'll play along. Assuming Powell can be traded for a 3rd and are looking for a cheap replacement/sleeper RB who may be available in the 4th round, look at John Kelly from Tennessee. A lot like Alvin Kamara who preceded him in Knoxville, but runs perhaps a bit tougher. The drawback is his size (5'9" - 205), so he's not your typical bell-cow, but a valuable piece nonetheless.

I would still spend a 2nd on a RB no matter if BP is on or off the roster...

McGuire is a good role player but he is no where an every down back and BP would be entering final year of his contract and will likely be gone after this season...
As for Judd or Jahad Thomas neither are guaranteed to be on the roster next season... Both have potential but will there be a roster spot for a fourth RB, I doubt it...

With either of our 2nds would try to get one of these three balanced RBs;
  • Sony Michel
  • Royce Freeman
  • Kerryon Johnson
And yes I prefer Michel of these three... Basically a younger more explosive BP... He could be the featured back moving forward withe McGuire as the change of pace...

Day three options these three are my next three:
  • Rashad Penny
  • John Kelly
  • Nyheim Hines

one thing it is never a dull moment with these immature assholes we have on this roster... what a shame he had loads of potential at this point I would rather have Josh Gordon on our roster than this schmuck... I was all for him when we signed him but this second incident most likely sealed his fate as a player for our now and future...

now looking at a receiver position it went from a strength to now a weakness...

No Robby Anderson (guaranteed suspension)
Not sure if Quincy Enunwa will return

Charone Peake project player with potential
Jalin Marshall can not produce unless he is up on Adderall
Devin Smith doesn't off season training so he gets himself on IR...

When former OC Morton had Ardarius Stewart on the field they ran the ball, so we don't know if Stewart can ball...

So it leaves us with these two:

Jermaine Kearse a viable possession receiver as a compliment...
Chad Hansen showed promise after injury bug came a calling late in the season...

We must be in the free agency race for two top receivers possibly --- Allen Robinson currently on IR but would be a real deal #1 wide out & Jarvis Landry would be a sick slot receiver along with the likes of Hansen and Kearse giving us a fab foursome no matter who is under center...

How bout this plan if bowles wants to be a running team?

Round 1: (if we have cousins on the roster) Conor Williams OT Texas ...or...(if we don't) Josh Rosen QB Wyoming
Round 2, Pick 1: Sonny Michel RB Georgia
Round 2, Pick 2: Frank Ragnow C Arkansas
Round 3: Bo Scarbrough RB Bama

Josh Rosen from UCLA
Josh Allen from Wyoming

as for 2 RBs wont be in top 4 picks we be lucky to get one...
if we want to run the ball we need 2 new interior linemen in the draft (1 OC & 1 LG)
not opposed to Ragnow nor Michel but Connor Williams pass... Can get Brandon Parker 3rd Round...

then with first trade down would be ideal, but if we took BPA then would splurge on taking Quenton Nelson...

then we would have LT Parker LG Nelson OC Price and we can figure out the rest moving forward continue to split Shell and Qvale for one more season at RT then depending on Winters recovery can retain Dozier or elevate Ben Braden to active roster, or of course could splurge in FA for a young option coming off rookie contract...

Michel, Mcguire and BP in the backfield not scary but workable...
the only problem is what will our WR position look like

Daniel Jeremiah just published his 1st round mock draft and has us taking Rosen with our 6th pick. I'd still like to see Cousins brought in because even though some claim that Rosen could start in the NFL I would have to see it to believe it.

IF this happened, why wouldn't you want to beef up the O-line and let Rosen start and take his lumps? How many other NFL teams use a high draft pick on a QB then have him collecting splinters? Not saying you should bring in Cousins because this isn't a shovel-ready SB contender, but if you do you spend that high draft pick on Barkley (if available) or quality O-line to give him the maximum support.

hopefully they will part ways either via trade or simple release of James Carpenter...
we are stuck with Kelvin Beachum, so the real question is do they have the balls to move him to right tackle where he belongs?
we need a center, two good free agents out there can we get one of them? Ryan Jensen or Russell Bodine -- honestly shit I would try to acquire both...

would love to draft Price but he may not be there in the 2nd round...

Lions left tackle Greg Robinson will be an UFA, do we attempt to sign him?

there are 6 good draft prospects at the guard position after round 2, so in rounds 4 and 5 we can possibly get one maybe two developmental prospects with capable starting potential... with that said signing a center in this free agency is a must... with the cap we have this off season possibly shopping Kelvin Beachum is an option... Brandon Shell is still a mystery, his stamina is sub par and has to be split reps with another player is puzzling since he is entering year number three... Brent Qvale likely to receive a low end tender, basically can be lost if another team sign's him to an offer sheet, being he was an un drafted free agent...

dakota dozier is said to have a roster spot because of his play on special teams, but with that being said they could move on from him this free agency... slowly but surely the entire last regime of player(s) still involved on this roster is slowly departing...

depending on the recovery of Brian Winters wouldn't be shocked if the team shopped him before and during the draft, he has some value and if the team is looking to rebuild, then that means the offensive line needs to be retooled from the ground up... but don't think this regime, front office wants to gamble with rookies taking the helm... so signing three free agents could be the plan to patch the broken, old line we currently have been witnessing the last few years...

Who the Jets might keep or cut this offseason

Robby Anderson

A few days ago, the possibility of the Jets cutting Anderson would have been unthinkable. He was their leading receiver in 2017 and developed into their greatest offensive weapon.

But Anderson's embarrassing arrest last week changed things. No one could blame the Jets, who are trying to build a new culture, for moving on. And they certainly could; Anderson's contract is not a factor (he's owed only $633,334 in 2018).

However, in the NFL, players with upside and explosive playmaking potential get multiple opportunities. The Jets will likely give him another chance, rather than watch him get it somewhere else.

Christian Hackenberg

The Hackenberg experiment is likely reaching its conclusion. The Jets will almost certainly add a competent quarterback for the long-term this offseason, making Hackenberg expendable.

His contract is essentially inconsequential to the Jets (he's owed $1.3 million in 2018, the team would save about $500,000 by cutting him) making it easy to move on -- well, aside from the bruised pride of admitting that they essentially wasted their 2016 second-round pick on someone who never took a snap.

If Hackenberg doesn't show major signs of improvement during training camp, he could be gone before Week 1.

Bryce Petty

Petty's future with the Jets is even bleaker because if the team keeps Josh McCown and adds another quarterback, Petty would be the fourth quarterback priority after another underwhelming end-of-season audition.

He is owed $843,324 in 2018, and the Jets would save $705,000 by cutting him. It's hard to imagine him returning.

Jermaine Kearse

The Jets would save all of Kearse's $5.55 million cap hit by cutting him this offseason, which means they could part ways with him if they sign a big-time receiver.

But Kearse is coming off a strong season in which he set career highs in catches (65) and yards (810), matched a career best with five touchdowns, and became a leader in the locker room.

Given all that, it's hard to imagine the Jets cutting him.

Buster Skrine

Skrine is set to cost the Jets $8.5 million against the cap in 2018. That's steep for a player who has been inconsistent. The team could easily move on and save $6 million by cutting Skrine.

The only thing is Skrine is coming off his best season as a Jet and established himself as a mostly reliable slot cornerback. For a team with plenty of cap space, it might be worth overpaying a little for that security. The Jets likely keep him.

James Carpenter

It was not a great season for Carpenter or the offensive line, and the Jets would save $4.7 million of Carpenter's $6.8 million cap hit next year by cutting the right guard. But Carpenter certainly wasn't the biggest issue on the line this season, and the Jets have him under contract at a reasonable price. They'll likely keep him.

Ben Ijalana

Ijalana, a versatile offensive lineman, was a non-factor for the Jets in 2017. He played in 11 games and didn't start a single one after playing all 16 and with 13 starts in 2016. The Jets will save $4.75 million of Ijalana's $6 million cap hit by cutting him this offseason. They'll almost certainly move on.

Matt Forte

He turned 32 in December and had a hard time staying healthy this season, playing in just 12 games because of knee and toe problems. Forte wants to play in 2018, but it's hard to imagine the health of a 10-year veteran improving. The Jets would save $3 million of his $4 million cap hit if they cut him, which they likely will.

Muhammad Wilkerson

Speaking of obvious: After two massively disappointing seasons, Wilkerson is set to make $16.75 million with a cap hit of $20 million in 2018.
The Jets will save $11 million by cutting him, and though they'll have to carry $9 million of dead money, they'll be rid of a persistent organizational headache. The Jets surely will cut him.

This is something I see as a catch 22 situation. No matter who is under center, and I believe you will agree here, we need to beef up the "O" line. That is paramount. I also agree with you that Cousins hasn't yet showed SB caliber tendency but he is a smart, consistent, winning, still reasonably young player that could help us develop this young team while we groom his replacement. If I was reasonably certain that the young drafted QB, and that's a big IF, is actually NFL ready or close, I would for sure have to consider starting him so that he could grow as the offensive line grows. The problem is that I don't believe a word of what the scouts and supposed experts are saying about these college QB's. The games I've watched this year, a lot more than I usually do, lead me to believe that there is a lot of hype being generated that is just not accurate or complete. With that in mind I think we have to wait and see how he performs in our system in a real NFL atmosphere.

Jets are expected to be in the wide receiver market this off season either in free agency and/or draft...

This could be one of many reasons:

the health and likely or unlikely return of Quincy Enunwa...
the cap casualty of Kearse's contract...
the development or lack thereof last year's draft selections of Hansen and/or Stewart...

the other prospects on the practice squad and/or injured reserve: Devin Smith, Charone Peake, Jalin Marshall

but this position needs some relevant pieces regardless if Enunwa returns, Kearse stays and both last year rookies take the next step...

free agency potential: Allen Robinson (Jax)
draft: Deon Cain, Clemson & Simmie Cobbs, IU are two options...

Jets Global News Report

The New York Jets are one of the teams that will figure heavily into the quarterback discussion. Earlier this week, we reported how the Jets plan on being active in free agency. Jets sources indicate that the quarterback need is more likely to be filled in the draft. Sources with the New York are being very tight-lipped on their thoughts about the first-round quarterbacks. That being said, after speaking with top evaluator at the team, my gut feeling is telling me that Wyoming's Josh Allen is their favorite among the quarterback prospects. General manager Mike Maccagnan has preferred big quarterbacks, and Allen certainly fits that description. New York also has ammo to move up for the quarterback they want with two second-round picks and four total selections in top 72.

Two years ago, speaking to sources at the Jets and reading their reactions led to me nailing them taking Christian Hackenberg in the 2016 NFL Draft. Last year, I listened to them, and that led me having them pass on Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. While it is still early in the process, right now I feel that Allen seems to be the Jets' guy.

A year ago, the New York Jets started a giant purge of expensive veterans from their roster, and the flipping of the roster was so dramatic that many media members and fans were alleging that the Jets were tanking the 2017 season to get a top quarterback prospect. That wasn't the case, as general manager Mike Maccagnan was actually making the roster better by going with younger, home-grown talents and saving the team a ton of cap space.

This year, team sources say that the Jets could be active in free agency, as they will have good amount of cap space to work with. Like with every move under Maccagnan, the signings will be very calculated, and New York won't go on a foolish or wild spending spree. The Jets will look to re-sign tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, as New York is very proud of the growth that Seferian-Jenkins has undergone since coming to the Jets. New York also has some interest in bringing back corner Morris Claiborne. The free agents New York is expected to target are younger players with upside who fit into their long-term plans.

Wouldn't be a bad pick up.He was the starting center until he had a concussion and as I recall was one of their best linemen.
