Rookie Parker WR Louisville for Miami needs a screw replaced that will keep him out till week 1. He will miss the rest of camp and the upcoming preseason. There are also long term concerns with his foot. Big blow to the Phins who will replace him on the depth chart with Greg Jennings. Even if back week 1, and that's a big if, they won't have time to build timing with Tannehill to get him ready for the season. Look for a gradual climb in PT for him.

DeVante Parker - WR - Dolphins
Dolphins first-round WR DeVante Parker underwent foot surgery Friday morning.
He had a screw replaced in his foot and is expected to open camp on PUP. The "plan" is for Parker to be ready Week 1, but he's going to miss the remainder of the offseason program and very likely most, if not all, of training camp. Parker broke his foot at Louisville and missed a big chunk of his final season there. This is a big blow to his NFL learning curve. Already part of a crowded receiving corps, Parker won't get the reps with Ryan Tannehill and falls well behind Kenny Stills, Jarvis Landry, and Greg Jennings on the depth chart. He's mostly off the redraft radar, and his foot remains a long-term concern for Dynasty owners.

Now we know why Parker slid to the Dolphins, which was mildly surprising.

Thats the thing about the draft, thats where the average draftnik is at a disadvantage when trying to analyze the draft, we don't have the background checks and medical reports and they don't always leak, but I'll guarantee you GM's knew Parker's foot was a big red flag and he might have slid a lot further if Miami didn't decide to take that gamble.

I'm not gonna lie, at the time I was pissed off that Parker slid to Miami, but I didn't know about this.

Any time that happens to a rookie, it turns his rookie season into a quasi redshirt year.

Veterans can sustain missing camp and still make a big contribution, but these reps for a rookie are invaluable. It really sabotages their rookie season when something like this happens and they essentially sit out camp and the preseason.

Agreed. They wont rush him into preseason games, IMO, and risk re-injury. So he'll likely be slowly worked into packages. That's not always a bad thing. The Colts did that with Moncreif last year and he came on strong to help them make a big time play-off run. They will likely ease him in, in a similar way (if they are smart).

If there is one this year, id bet on Gurley.
Its a good bet, RB is the most instinctive position in football, so you can miss reps as a rookie and still hit the ground running when you get healthy, and if you are great, it will show right away, with or without the practice reps.

We used to have an old saying back in the day:

"Great RB's are born and not made."
