great news I always thought the packers along with the ravens were two of the better drafting teams in the NFL

Another instance of Maccagnan truly changing the entire front office. It seems like this hasn't happened since pre-Bradway. Tanny kept a lot of guys in place, as did Idzik. This is a whole new regime, and as much credit as both Maccagnan and Bowles deserve, Woody deserves credit for sanctioning it.

I saw this a couple days ago. They signed him and the young scout from the Rams, both awesome additions. 51 has been posting these on the front office thread. Great job breathing some new life and direction in the scouting department. Hopefully we can become good at scouting a position other than dline in the future.

We will be thankful for that pick when Wilkerson joins rex in buffalo. I really am starting to think Wilkerson is asking to much so he can force himself out of NY

Another instance of Maccagnan truly changing the entire front office. It seems like this hasn't happened since pre-Bradway. Tanny kept a lot of guys in place, as did Idzik. This is a whole new regime ...

Tanny and Idzik didn't do it because they were not qualified to do it, they had little choice but to keep what they inherited, Bradway and the scouting staff he compiled, which was below average at best and getting progressively worse.

Mac, OTOH, was a scout, a part of the scouting fraternity, and make no mistake about it, it is like a fraternity, these guys are on the road most of the year, they travel to the same college towns, games and scouting events (Shrine Game, Senior Bowl etc.), sit in the same sections reserved for scouts, stay at the same hotels, and they just naturally develop close friendships and ties, so by the time one of them gets promoted to sit in the BIG CHAIR, he already has a list of scouts he wants to bring with him. Tanny and Idzik never had that experience and they weren't in the fraternity.

Even before Williams. Other than dline, I wouldn't say Bradway and team were very good scouting other positions, would you? Maybe oline and MLB they've been fairly consistent at. But I haven't liked how we've historically do e at scouting WR, TE, OLB, S, and RB. I could add QB to that list too I guess.

No, I think dline outside of Gholston is one of the few areas Bradway and Co fairly consistently hit on, going back to Ellis and Abraham. That was his group before being promoted to GM I believe (someone can correct me). Was he even on the staff with ferguson and Douglas? I felt he worked with Parcells and got his stamp of approval which is why it seemed like he had a lifetime contract in our scouting department.

The question then becomes -- "Why are these other teams letting their own guys leave"?

Are we offering better positions? Ones those teams wouldn't/couldn't offer? That would appear to be the case in some situations, but not others.

I want to believe we're building a solid scouting dept, but isn't there sometimes a reason people become available?

I would imagine they are getting pay raises and bumped up the ladder, sometimes also people just want a change of scenery. For all we don't know one of the scouts or more than likely more could be macs friends from when he was on the road always scouting.

I know if I started a business their would be a few college friends I would hire without blinking a eye.

I do like that they came from many different organizations.

Not only does it bring a wide variety of perspective, but it would seem to imply he has connections all over the place. If so, you'd have to assume/hope these guys were the BEST options (as opposed to the ONLY options).

It also makes me feel better about the guys we kept -- they must have been pretty good to survive the purge . . .
