The Patriots have acquired LB Barkevious Mingo from the Cleveland Browns, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Per Cleveland.com, the Patriots are giving up a 2017 fifth round pick.
New England reportedly had interest in Mingo when he was interviewed by the team in 2013 before the draft.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, he is flying to Carolina tonight to join the Patriots.
Mingo played in all 16 of the Browns games in 2015 and had 24 combined tackles. As Schefter pointed out, Mingo was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft.
The Cleveland Browns did not pick up Mingo's fifth year option and is expected to hit the market after this season. Schefter says that the Patriots hope he can provide more help with with rushing the passer. Mike Lombardi, who was with the Patriots for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, drafted Mingo in 2013 when he was the general manger of the Browns.
