The time between OTA's and training camp is a dead zone. Very little meaningful information comes out besides fluff pieces about players. And I'm bored to tears.
Most fans say it takes several years to truly judge a draft class, even though the term 'bust' is often uttered in year one. Let's look at previous drafts.
2016 Draft
Round 1: Darren Lee
I don't think Lee will ever reach stardom but is likely on his way to becoming a solid, if not spectacular, MLB. Is that good enough for the #20 pick? Probably not but it's better than the #18 Calvin Pryor pick. Mac needs to do better in the first round.
Round 2:Christian Hackenburg
'Nuff said. The complete disasters of the second round picks has drastically held this team back.
Round 3: Jordan Jenkins
Jenkins is a solid run stuffing OLB. A solid pick for round 3.
Round 4: Justin Burris
We've seen glimpses of hope from Burris but they have been few and far between. Burris will be given his last chance to succeed in '18 and needs to show something. In year 3 of Burris's career he needs to earn his roster spot or he will be gone. It seems Bowles really likes this guy so he will be given his chance. This may be a decent choice but it's looking like it wasn't
Round 5: Brandon Shell
Mac traded a future 4th round pick to nab Shell. He has been ok at times and has struggled at times but I think he will be a solid RT, especially if Long works out and Winters is healhy. If so, a fifth round pick for a starting OL would be a good move by Mac.
Round 6: Lac Edwards
Eh. He has always showed potential but has been too inconsistent. If he works it out in year 3, a 6th round pick for a punter is worth it.
Round 7: Charone Peake
I think it's unlikely he will make the team this year. Not a bad risk for a 7th rounder.
UDFA: Robby Anderson
A home run. If he could just stay out of trouble!
Summary
Mac could have done better in round 1 and round 2 was a complete disaster. If Jenkins, Shell and Anderson become/stay starters, along with Darren Lee, this draft was a medium success.
