Not watching the game but looking at the play by play line on NFL.com and I see this just isn't going well. At least Hack got the start or at least it seems he did. So if he continues to shit the pan, then he has no one to blame but himself when he isn't named the starter and doesn't play any real games until game 10. Of course, those will be meaningless games and how can you truly evaluate him in that kind of situation. Guess you can in heart, leadership and will to win no matter what but still not the same as a game 1-5 situation, when the team still thinks they have a chance to be a playoff team. Anyway, if Hack was/is this bad, I wouldn't play him either if I was TB. Especially if I know I'm in a no win situation either way. It's not to save Hack's psyche or save the team embarrassment but to say fuck you on my way out the door. Of course, I'm hoping TB doesn't do that but if Hack is this bad and will continue to be and TB knows he's going to get fired anyway, why look out for the Jets???

Note: I know this team is bad but come on Hack, you got to do something to show everyone you can handle this situation. If you can't, then why should they keep you around???

the line play in the first half was atrocious, not to mention a blown chip read by returning Bilal got Hackenberg blown up.... the play calling was too safe and never gave the kid any chance of making plays... when he tucked it for a first down they should of gotten aggressive but they continued with the conservative approach...

this defense is not going to last if the offense can not milk more clock...

regardless of the outcome of this game can not blame Hackenberg for the reckless game plan this coaching staff dreamed up because not even Aaron Rodgers would of been successful behind that debacle they tossed out there tonight...

I still think Petty is better that Hack. This team may not even improve by playing the young players. They are a long, long way from being competitive.

They have scored 7 points in the PS. There is not one player on offense worth a shit. All backups at best and many shouldn't be in the league.

WOW, is that putting it lightly or what, lol!!! Man this team is going to suck this year and we know that. No surprise but the one thing we all had something to hold our hats and look forward to was seeing if this young core could play hard, competitive games and grow together. With Hack leading the way of course but it doesn't look like this was going to be the case. DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!

Bryce Petty getting better protection and is looking sharp out there, yes it is against second and third team but he is moving the sticks...

if there wasn't a three way competition at quarterback there is one now...

I would even say that give Petty a chance to start next week and see if he can take the job...

I can't watch the game live, but from I can tell it's not going well at all on offense. I don't think you can get a read on Hackenberg with six attempts and bad offensive line play. That said, he does need to get the team into the end zone, that's his job. I wouldn't read too much into tonight one way or the other.

Not that it matters, but that last pass by Petty was sweet....sure, it was picked off, but a more experienced TE comes down with it.

Having said that, this is going to be a Kotite-esk season. AKA-We're f'd.

if Petty didn't prove anything to the coaching staff that he not only should get more reps, but he commanded that huddle, offense line checks and movement in the pocket climbing the ladder and placing the ball where a receiver needed to catch n run then I don't know what else to say but he proved he belongs at this level with his performance tonight... and yes The Wicker Man that last attempt to score a touchdown that ball was placed perfectly giving Leggett a 50/50 ball that he was so close to pulling it in...

If the o-line plays like that this season, it won't matter who starts. They are going to get somebody killed.
can't run block, can't pass protect. This season just got a lot looooooonger.

Here's what's so sad or ironic or pathetic, however you want to call it. Teams just seem to be drafting QBs left and right in whatever round of success or potential success but we just come close to it. The fucking Browns drafted Kizer who looks like he might have the goods. The year before they drafted Kessler who is average atleast. Dallas draft Dak Prescott in the damn forth round. Seahawks draft Wilson in the third. Eagles, Bucs, Raiders, Titans, and now it appears the Chiefs, Bears and Browns also. What is this curse or dark cloud that's over the Jets??? Even two or three years ago when Rex Ryan got fired, he made sure he didn't give us everything we wanted and won those final 2-3 games that knocked us out the Winston and Marietta race. Now I'm sure TB will do us the same way, and if by some dumb luck we do draft one of those blue chip QBs, guess what he will turn out to be, a bust as well. WTF, I mean truly WTF man!!!

I've said it before I think Petty is better. Has all the tools. 3rd year in the league. Hack is basically a rookie. I was disappointed seeing Petty given no chance with Hack being as bad as he was last year in practices. He shouldn't jump him just because Mac wants to prove everyone right with his selection. He chose Petty also. I like his toughness too.

i can't point to one thing hackenberg did well last night.. he looked awful..

tell you what though, i think i can make a pretty fair argument, morton's play calling was at least as bad.....

This game is a very,, very small sample size to judge a QB, you can't really do that. Hack may have looked awful, but last week he looked improved. There are going to be ups and downs. I would not get too high or too low about it. With regards to Petty, same thing. He was playing against 3rd stringers, so again I wouldn't overweight his performance. I'm not diminishing it, just wouldn't overweight it.

The other thing I would add is that all the scrutiny is probably not helping either player develop. They need to build confidence, not have every series and every throw put under a microscope at this point in their careers. How old is Hackenberg 23? Petty is what 24-25? This team isn't going anywhere anyway, so give them room and time to develop.

My recommendation stands - everyone take a breath and let season play out. This will work itself out, but reserve judgement until we have a larger sample size.

i don't necessarily disagree.. where we may differ is that the jets organization finally has to come to terms with the NFL is an offensive league.. has been for awhile.. get with the times & hire an offensive mind who can properly judge what talent hackenberg & or petty have to offer.. or someone in the '18 draft..

enough with repeating the definition of insanity already.....
