i'm trying to figure this out.. bowles says it a 3 man competition at QB.. petty supposedly is completing around 10% more of his passes in camp than hackenberg, yet he has no shot to be the starter?? how does that make sense when neither kid was getting 1st team reps until about 72 hours ago.. when are we to believe what bowles says at his pressers??Hackenberg has had his ups and downs like the rest of them but overall his touch and velocity is far apart from the other two... Sure Petty hasn't gotten his fair share of the snaps but that just shows that the real competition is between Hack and McCown while the team is trying every which way to give the job to Christian without actually handing him the job... One thing is apparent he has a better handle on pocket presence and footwork compared to the other two and when he gets time to step into his throws he is able to lay the ball in the breast pocket of the receiver deep...
Consistency is what they are hoping he will showcase when he gets his chance, regardless of which group he is in...
Offensively for me, what I want to see is correct line calls by Wesley Johnson, assisted line calls by both Carpenter and Winters allowing whomever is lined up at tackle isn't to blame for the poor protection that we will see... Now the main focus will the quarterback notice or understand what is about to happen when the line call is either incorrect or countered properly by the defense to overload the weak side to bring pressure...
As for the running game I expect them to limit carries to Forte and Powell to avoid injury... A helpful handful to the rookie and the others on the roster like Romar Morris, Todman and Murphy to get a better handle on who fits this system the best and who could be the fourth RB on the roster...
Tight End and Receiver will be interesting in who goes and gets, lays everything on the line to earn a spot...
Defense expect the linebackers to be aggressive, want to see Mo, Sheldon and Leo together but that won't happen with McClendon, Simon, Thomas, Pelon, Johnson, Gamble, Faulk and Pennel all fighting for a spot...
Secondary right now isn't a concern especially with the two new safeties, they will need the entire preseason to find their feet together, and help out the corners which still are unproven to what they can accomplish...
Main competition other than QB, is how the hell does Catanzaro still hold a lead on Ross Martin whom has been kicking the lights out to this point?

which bring me to asking you how you are interpreting bowles wanting hackenberg to win the job?? based on what?? it certainly can't be his track record for playing kids over veterans.. because clearly there is no track record of that.. at all..
sounds like you're saying, bowles is as full of shit as i've been saying since last season..First off Noone ever thought Petty had a chance (fans nor media). Second Petty would have to be nearly perfect in preseason games to get consideration.
In the end if they haven't already conversed internal about this competition being between the two McCown and Whack then we are in for one helluva nightmare seasonot with no signs of life for a brighter future.
On a side note I will be sparingly invisible while I try to save my data from my pc which was destroyed by one of windows 10 unwanted unimportant updates that crashed my cpu/pc.

mccown with a TD pass on his opening drive..
the imaginary QB competition is already over.....
hackenberg has been sharp, 8 of 10 with two flat out drops..He should cost us the #1 pick.

no shots down field yet..
you might find post #9 in this thread informative..So from what you're seeing especially whoever's watching the game live and in the stadium, does Hack have a chance of winning the starting job or is it already McCown's?
Also, who were the starting WRs, TEs and RBs?

I like what I saw from the Defense. Offense looked OK.... Hack looked dead on accurate those 2 drops hurt the rhythm of the offense but it is what it is... Need to see Hack with the 1's but he was playing with the 2's against the Titans 1's on his first 2 series. So all in all i saw a lot of improvement from his pre-season looks last year.
Not sure there is a difference between the Jets 1's and 2's.
