If Petty's injury lands him on the Short term IR if it is deemed that serious then obviously we all know Geno will not be moved any where, Especially with Hack being so raw. Though lets honestly reserve our knee jerk reactions until Petty's results come back later today at 10am. Hoping for the best. This kid proved this pre-season he is ready to take on the #2 role.
Petty could actually come off the the short term IR later this year and be the 3rd stringer behind Geno in case Smith also gets injured.
As far as Hackenbergs performance. I actually liked the fact that he got those reps last night. Believe it or not, he's a type of kid that needed to fail and see how different the NFL is from college. Just like Petty last year, Hack is wet behind the ears. He has so much to build off of. Think of it this way as well fellas:
Hack hasn't gotten pratice time like the other three qbs. His timing was evident that he needs more time to learn his receivers. I'am sure he will absorb as much information this upcoming season and place the work needed to reach that next level come next Julys training camp.
(Not worried about Hack at all). Hell, Browning Nagle looked stellar in 5 straight pre-season games in '92. How'd that turn out? Hack is obviously much more talented than nagle and he has it between the ears to get all of his mechanics fixed.
