Proposed Sports Bar Meetup for October 25th

By any chance is there already a group of members who get together at a sports bar on L.I.? If not, would anyone be interested in doing this at a central (or rotating) location? I would think that this might be enjoyable, if we can get a group of 4 or more of us together. Thoughts?

Yea that would be cool. I'm in queens so not too far away from LI. Some of us are going to try to meet up during the Eagles game, not the preseason one but if we can organize a small get together to catch a game at a bar, I am okay with that too.

Unfortunately, although I will be at that game, it would be hard for me to meet you guys there. I'm in southwest Nassau County I would love to meet with a bunch from this site for a game at a bar.

I'm in central Florida, on the gulf coast. I moved here in 2008 from the Jersey shore and found a couple of small local places I would visit to see the Jets on tv that year.

Starting in 2009, a new larger sports bar opened near my house. When I went there for the first game, I discovered a group of over a dozen Jets fans who had moved their Sunday festivities from another joint that I had never known about. They are all from the NY/NJ area, naturally. I've been with that group ever since, and we've moved to a new place since then. Probably near 20 of us now, and we take over the place every Sunday, J-E-T-S chants and all.

It is fantastic to watch the games with a large group like that, and I hope you can put a regular spot together.

I hope that we can do arrange this, even if on a smaller scale. I organized a trip to a motel room in Connecticut for the AFL championship game before the Super Bowl. Why was this necessary? The guys under the age of 60 will find this unfathomable, but the game was blacked out in the home city in those days! You had to go 75 miles away to find a broadcast. Namath completed a 52 yard bomb to Maynard in the wind tunnel that was Shea Stadium. That pass was an example of why I laugh when people compare Namath's stats to modern era quarterbacks. I'm too lazy to look it up, but Joe completed about 1/3 of his passes that day, as did Daryl Lamonica for the raiders.

It was a great experience to watch the game with about 10 of my college buddies. Plus, since I organized the trip, I got the best seat, right in front of the 19 inch TV

I remember that day very well. I was in 4th grade and remember listening to the game on radio with my older brother. In those days NBC televised AFL football and I remember my older brother and father actually stayed up and watched the tape delay broadcast at midnight. My Dad wouldn't let me! I also remember listening to the next years playoff loss to the Chiefs. You are correct, today's generation would never relate to the home blackout rule!

BTW, I would be into it if we can arrange watching a Jets game in a sports bar.

Here's my idea. How about we get together for the first road game that will take place at 1:00? That would be the Redskins game on October 18th. By setting this up for a road game, hopefully we can bring in some of the members who have tickets for the home games.

The game on 10/18 against the Skins is a home game. You got me nervous though. I am coming in for that one with my son. Haven't bought game tickets yet, you made me think maybe I screwed up and would be flying into Newark just to drive down to DC. Following week agaisnt NE is the first 1PM road game.
