Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg scheduled to visit Jets

ESPN -- The New York Jets, who sent a five-man contingent to the recent Penn State pro day to scout Christian Hackenberg, among others, want to see more of the intriguing quarterback. They have scheduled a pre-draft visit at their facility for April 10, according to a source.

Hackenberg is one of the most polarizing players in the draft. He has a powerful arm and great size (6-foot-4½, 223 pounds), but his production declined steadily after a sensational freshman year. By all accounts, he impressed at his pro day, perhaps the reason for the Jets' follow-up interest. The general sense among scouts is that he could be picked as high as the second round.

In three seasons as the Penn State starter, Hackenberg passed for 8,457 yards, a 56.1-percent complete ratio, 48 touchdowns and 31 interceptions.

The Jets have selected a quarterback in each of the last three drafts, but it's always on the table for them. Their top decision-makers didn't attend the pro days of the highest-rated quarterbacks, Carson Wentz and Jared Goff, but neither player is expected to be available for the Jets (20th pick). For what it's worth, general manager Mike Maccagnan was in attendance at the Penn State pro day.

Memphis' Paxton Lynch, regarded by many as the third-best quarterback in the draft, will have his pro day next Wednesday.

QB Paxton Lynch set for pre-draft visit to Jets

ESPN -- The New York Jets, they of the unsettled quarterback situation, are doing their homework on one of the top passers in the upcoming draft.

Former Memphis star Paxton Lynch is scheduled to take a pre-draft visit to the Jets, according to the NFL Network.

What makes the Lynch-Jets link so interesting is that he could be available when the Jets make their first-round pick, 20th overall. He's generally regarded as the third-best quarterback in the draft, behind North Dakota State's Carson Wentz and Cal's Jared Goff.

Lynch is scheduled to have his pro day next Wednesday; Wentz and Goff have already had theirs. Jets general manager Mike Maccagan didn't attend either one, but he was on hand at the Penn State pro day to see Christian Hackenberg, who also will be making a pre-draft visit to the Jets.

Nothing like a little quarterback speculation to liven things up.

was listening to a podcast this am and heard that Hackenberg's combine visits didn't go too well because of the less than complimentary remarks he made about PSU HC Franklin. The QB had a very successful freshman year under Bill O'Brien, but regressed since.

Interesting, either they love him and are trying to throw people off the scent, or they view him strictly as a 4-3 DE and a bad fit at 3-4 Rush OLB. Its one of the other, because he might be there at 20.
