so far all trades have been defensive players either drafted or signed by former GM Mike Maccagnan that being said who are being considered the core group on the defensive side of the ball:

Quinnen Williams is a young productive player that was being talked about being shopped which has been shot down by the team...
John Franklin-Myers has stepped up and became a viable starter...
Kyle Phillips was a free agent gem signed by Maccagnan and prolly would of been shopped if not been placed on IR...
Jabari Zuniga if he ever gets on the field could become another viable starting option...
Patrick Owunsar looks to be the future starting middle linebacker for the rest of the season...
Noah Dawkins another spot starter, special team's option this year...
Neville Hewitt is the starting nickel linebacker and special team's ace that spot starts...
Blessaun Austin last year's draft pick is an affordable option playing above his draft selection...
Bryce Hall when he gets on the field could be starting across Bless Austin...
Javelin Guidry, Lamar Jackson are two competitive options in the secondary...
Ashtyn Davis is arguably the only safety on the team past this year...

This is our defense moving forward...
They may re-sign Matthias Farley...
But outside this group there is plenty to rebuild...

Nathan Sheperd, Folorunso Fatakusi, Blake Cashman are still questionable if they stay on the team next year...

Jordan Jenkins, Tarell Basham, Brian Poole, Marcus Maye, Bradley McDougald, Pierre Desir, Quincy Wilson, are among a hefty list that likely won't be back next year... Expect these players to be shopped the next couple days...

Quinnen Williams being traded is a joke unless you traded him for one of the top three young QB,s. He is becoming great & he is 23 years old. Even if the baby Jets for the next year or three get younger He would be 27 or 28 by the time they got to be good enough for a run. Just does not add up. He is good vs the run & is the bull we need up front to push the pocket & get the QB

I see him as a Extra Large Bacon & Pepperoni Pizza guy, No plates or napkins just his shirt,,,,,,with a large coke or two as a chaser

I'm having a hard time seeing his vision because what he's done so far has not resulted in any improvement (at least not at the moment).

He spent so much capital on the line this past offseason and outside of Becton no one looks like a keeper. He completely ignored skilled positions and it's one of the teams glaring weaknesses. He signed huge question marks at WR, did the same at CB, and took a flyer on another question mark for Edge Rusher.

He has a coach who doesn't value the RB position and went ahead and deep 6 the talent we had there, while also sparingly using the rookie and force feeding the oldest RB on the face of the planet.

These are all impactful positions and game changing positions but Douglas seems completely amiss at trying to upgrade/improve them.

he has been here for a year and a half no one can take this roster and make it a playoff team overnight...

he signed flexible contracts for stop gap players while he addresses the line through the draft... All 3 contracts plus the re-signing of Alex Lewis which is just one year shows that he is trying to fix the problems... From scheme to coaching sometimes said players don't fit then again no offseason where they would build that continuity there was none can not blame JD for that...

He struck gold with Mekhi Becton, jury still out on Cameron Clark but he could develop into something positive...
He struck gold with La'Mical Perine and claimed a good change of pace guy in Ty Johnson...
He looks like he did well by trading back and still getting Denzel Mims who looks like he can be something special...
Signing Breshad Perriman taking a risk on an oft injured player but when he is on the field he produces, so can go either way on that one...
Last year Joe Douglas signed rookie free agent one of his first three signings is second year receiver Jeff Smith, jury still out...

Tearing a part of all these high priced players that were signed by the former GM, saving money for next year and possibly the year after with the salary cap expected to decrease is a smart move... Jamal Adams wanted out and JD moved him... Restructured Avery Williamson contract and basically opened the door with that move that they would trade him before the deadline but because of all the injuries they waited to the last minute... Other moves were teams calling for said players and both Mclendon & Willis were sought out by the Bucs & 9ers...

Any player that was drafted or signed by Maccagnan is open for business... They closed the door on trading Quinnen Williams, other than that everyone else is negotiatable until we know otherwise...

Everyone expects for the new GM to come in and wave a wand and presto new team, with a new direction never that simple and not with this team...

I think we are forgetting the Ast coaches too, Beachbum is playing well for the Cardinals this year because it look like we have a keeper as an OL coach. He did not get better overnight by himself Our OLC has them also playing as a unit. When we change coaching we will see if some of these players also improve.

But

It is way too early to call Mims, Perina, Johnson & clark anything but numbers on a uniform now. Way too early.
