Q. Williams and E. Oliver worries!

Sorry to be the party popper here but my worries about these two guys or drafting any 280 plus pound dline men, is if he doesn’t turn out to be the next W. Sapp, J.J. Watt, R. White or A. Donald then it was a waisted draft pick pretty much. With all the hype behind these two prospects, especially Q. Williams, you would think he will turn out to be one of these HOFers or future HOFers. Same with the raising hype of E. Oliver and he was supposed to be a number one overall pick anyway, if it wasn’t for his injury and attitude issues. This run of 280-300 pound dline men we’ve drafting over the past decade or so just hasn’t work well for us.

Here’s the problem with that, our very own L. Williams who was just recently drafted had all this hype around him 3 years ago and he’s average at best. Maybe a little better then average. So if Q. Williams or E. Oliver is going to turn out to be another L. Williams then what have we gained? I personal think E. Oliver may turn out to be a better player then Q. Williams but I don’t want the Jets to draft either one. If the Jets are staying at three then draft J. Allen and be done with it. I’ll even be good with Bosa. Although I think Allen fits us better. Recent history has shown that the smaller edge rusher/LBs are more successful at rusheing the QBs then the big guys.

Take examples such as K. Mack, J. Bosa, V. Miller, D. Lawrence. We can even go back a little bit to L. Taylor, M. Stratham, H. Long and D. Thomas. Yes there a few dline men that are very good today but no where as good IMHO as a White, Sapp, Watt and Donald. These four guys are true game changers, impact players to the highest extent when it comes to the 280 plus pound dline men. Guys like C. Campbell from the Jaquars and C. Jordan from the Saints is not on their level. Jordan comes close but not quite there IMO. Now L. Williams isn’t even on Campbell or Jordan’s level.

So unless Q. Williams or E. Oliver will be better then Jordan or Campbell on a consistent basis, like Sapp, Watt, White or Donald then why are or would we draft them???

I don’t think you’re a party popper.

A party pooper, though? That’s a different story.

I wouldn't write off Big Cat yet. He has not lived up to his lofty expectations, but he hasn't been average at best. He's been good at best. Not great, but at his best, a good, solid, if unspectacular, DL.

I would prefer going edge over interior DL, but that's just me.

Hoping they trade down (Wash @ 15) and secure enough picks to get an edge rusher there and then boaster the OL (C, LT)

A really good article that makes me think twice about Williams/Oliver vs Allen/Sweat/Burns.

http://turnonthejets.com/2019/04/new...vs-redundancy/

Thank you for this. This article is spot on and exactly what I’m talking about. There is not one 280 plus pound dline men that the Jets have drafted that has been all world, PERIOD!!! Not one that I remember and if so, it hasn’t happened in decades. Not many teams have drafted dline men on a consistent basis that size that have been all world. They come few and far in between. Now the edge rushers/LBs come more a dime a dozen. Much more of those in the league now and throughout history. It’s just a fact! Just makes sense to me to do exactly what this article says, trade down (for excellent value ofcourse) in the top 10-15 and draft Burns. If you can’t trade out then draft Allen or Bosa at #3.

I will say this if we haven't traded down and our pick isn't Bosa, Williams or Allen I will not be a happy camper.... It means Mac has again tried to get cute and think he's outsmarting everyone with another player. Him getting cute hasn't worked yet.

That's exactly how I felt when Calvin Pryor was called
