Quickie TOP 6 Mock Draft

Haven't posted in awhile, but been following the draft process.

I'll do a full mock soon, but for now here's my quickie TOP 6 mock draft.
  1. BROWNS - Myles Garrett, ER, Texas A&M
  2. 49ERS - Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford
  3. BEARS - Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State
  4. JAGUARS - Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama
  5. TITANS - Jamal Adams, S, LSU
  6. NY JETS - OJ Howard, TE, Alabama
Howard is a terrific athlete with a tremendous size/speed ratio.

Under-utilized at Bama' due to Saban's scheme, but whenever his number was called it was clear too me that this kid is an elite TE at the next level waiting to happen. That he blew up the Senior Bowl and Combines only punctuated what I already believed.

Also when he was targeted, including Bowl Games and Championship Games, he came up huge ... unstoppable.

I know he's not currently being projected this high, but its a weak draft class and the trick is to find an impact player.

IMO Howard will be an All-Pro Receiving TE in the NFL for many years to come.

Another thing to consider, we're grooming young QB's and a big, fast, athletic, playmaking TE like Howard is a young QB's best friend.

6' 6" target with 4.5 speed, and a tremendous athlete. This kid has all the elements of an elite TE, I think he's going higher than anticipated.

I haven't heard much about Howard. I will look him up and check out what other stats are saying about him. What we need is true impact players. If Howard is the guy you say he is and we take him, then we will have a solid group of possession receivers who can keep the outside open for Devin Smith and Robby Anderson.

I like Howard. 6th pick might be early, but if he turns into a healthy Gronk then its never too high.

I really hope we don't pick him at 6, major reach. Most of this argument would have made Jace Amaro a top 5 pick. I could be completely wrong, but I think you're biting too hard on a strong workout.

With those names still on the board in your top 5 picks, there's several high impact picks available at 6.

I just learned that in McShay's updated mock draft he has Howard going to the Jaguars at #4

I think you will discover that is the start of a trend.

My prediction, in two weeks Jets fans will be more worried that he won't be there for us at 6 than whether or not he's a reach at 6

Rather get Oline help
Me too, unfortunately there are no OL's in this class who project in the TOP 10

The closest thing is the LT from Wisconsin and he's coming off hip surgery and hasn't been able to workout.

I love the kid, but drafting him at 6 is a big gamble, like drafting Dee Milliner who had achilles surgery.

The same is true of the Safety, Hooker ... you'd be drafting an injured player coming off serious surgery.

I don't mind doing that with CB Sidney Jones in RD 2, but I'm not doing it at #6

i'm still hesitant on taking a TE at 6 but LOLz i do feel a little better at least about it after hearing how on board you are with the possibility..

Howard would be an excellent selection, but I was thinking recently that Jake Butt in the 2nd round could be an excellent selection. I know the injury also and he just seems like a guy that could be worth the risk?

No sure if you realize that Jake Butt tore his ACL in Orange Bowl on Dec 31. I like him but not that high this year with all of the TE talent and his new serious injury.

It's hard to deny that Howard would be a best of both worlds pick for NYJ? The Jets NEED a TE. They have needed one for a long time now. Coincidentally, OJ Howard might very well be the BPA available at number 6 as well? A lot of mocks have him going between 17 and 32, but they all said it depended on his interviews? They wondered if he had enough desire to be a top pick? Questioned whether he truly loved football? That's more than likely changed by now and that's why you see him creeping up the draft boards.

But make no mistake about it, this could very well be the best pick of Mac's career in NY. Even better than Leonard Williams has turned out to be? He fits everything you want to see in a pick. He's a great blocker. He's a great pass catcher. He's an OL and the Jets need both OL and TE. He fills a need area for the Jets. More than likely he would be the BPA anywhere he gets selected in the 1st round.

Most people want him in the 3rd, I'll agree. I just think there's so much talent there and the potential for a Rob Gronkowski type, that he's probably worth taking in the 2nd round? If you like him that much, better not get cute about where you are going to take him?

Another TE to consider in rounds 2-3 if we don't grab Howard at #6 is Adam Shaheen. Sheheen is a small school guy whose tape jumps out at you, although it may be misleading because of the level of competition. He has Gronk size (6'6" 275) and is a very good receiving TE, however the blocking is a work in progress.
