It was the smart pick. Yes, an ER like Allen would’ve been nice, but interior pass rush is equally if not more important. We’re going to have a strong defense up the middle with Mosley/Williamson/Williams Squared. Our run defense just got better, and so did Leonard Williams. He cannot be the focal point of opposing offenses anymore.
I do think Allen would have been the better pick, but I also had some concerns with his pass rush moves. Lot of free runs at the QB that wouldn't happen in the NFL. Q is the safe pick. We now have a very formidable middle with Q, CJ and Adams. Maybe LW can live up to his draft position. No excuses now.
Well said. It is so important to have that strength in the middle to keep your inside linebackers clean to do their thing. I still have nightmares thinking about having lost Jason Ferguson to Dallas in FA, and how much it affected Jonathan Vilma , and what he was able to do. Smart move by the Jets.
I hope you guys are right because I’m not feeling this pick at all. Maybe he will turn being the next R. White, J. J. Watt, A. Donald or W. Sapp. I hope the hell so but I won’t believe it until I see it!
Remember, L. Williams college tape pretty much the same as this be he didn’t turn out to be the next Sapp, White, Watt or Donald. So why should I think this Williams will be? We’ll see what happens!

Leonard Williams has over 220 tackles and 17 sacks over 4 seasons, and a very high number of pressures on the QB that doesn’t show up on stat sheets. And he’s not doing it with Sheldon Richardson or Mo Wilkerson next to him. He’s doing it in a 34 defense with frequent double teams. Hog Molly Q is going to change that.
He doesn’t need to be Aaron Donald to be a successful draft pick. That’s an unfair comparison.
Your right, that is a unfair comparison. Donald is special and has shown that. Not saying L. Williams isn’t but he hasn’t shown it. He’s been better then average at best. We need all world like a A. Donald and L. Williams isn’t that or hasn’t shown himself to be. Maybe the addition of Q will change that. All I know is one of them better better show up to being all world or this will very frustrating. Q may turn out to be the next R. White and L. Williams may vastly improve also. I’m not saying they won’t but I’m not saying they will either. I’ll just say I’ll believe it when I see it.
thanks for sharing those highlights. he is a monster, and that is against the top competition in the country - teams like LSU, georgia and clemson.
to those saying because leo williams didn't turn into an elite player that we shouldn't take Q, that is kind of like saying since mark sanchez didn't turn into a FQB, we shouldn't have traded up and take darnold. point is each player is different. leo has been a good, but not great player. but that should have no impact in deciding whether to take the guy considered by many to be the best player in the draft. i doubt too many draft boards have josh allen ranked higher than Q. and i think the jets will play multiple fronts, where gregg williams can utilize all the talent he has on the line.

One of the Williams will be single teamed now on every play. As others have said, Leo was Always doubled. There are not enough interior linemen for these two. They can chip with a RB. Lol. All the attention that will be needed on the middle of opponents lines will make our formerly pedestrian rush backers look 100 times better.
The glaring positive impact that a interior DLine with the ability to pass rush is that it lessens the need to blitz in order to get pressure. Having W[SUP]2[/SUP] plus Anderson gives GWilliams so many options without having to bring the house. We do need however a LB who can cover, and outside of Lee we are lacking in that department.
Wow, another DL. So those of us who want an edge rusher and those of us who wanted something done about the O line are equally denied, can't say the Jets aren't even-handed. We have such a great track record with these defensive picks, only Jamal Adams stands up unquestionably, and there is time for that to go sour.
Who do you double? The thing with the Jets of late is that it was always Big Cat getting the doubles. Now who do you double? You can't double both. One of them is going to be man up, and I am pretty confident in either of them in a 1-on-1 situation.
I think Leonard Williams getting doubled has been debunked. He just isn’t very good at the moment. Hopefully Q will help him out.
After having watched this video, I'm convinced we got the best player in college football.

Seriously? Go watch some game film and say that he isn't doubled on almost every play. Where on earth are you getting that from?!
The best story I saw about Mac and Q is that after viewing game film, Mac actually went to the scouting dept and asked if they were highlight films they had given him, lol. He couldn't believe that Williams was actually dominating to that extent on basically every play.
