NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans have traded the No. 1 pick in the draft to the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster trade.

Tennessee will send the top selection along with its fourth- (No. 113) and sixth-round (No. 177) picks this year to the Rams in exchange for Los Angeles' first-round pick (No. 15), two second-round selections (Nos. 43 and 45) and a third-round pick (No. 76) in 2016. The Titans also will get the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017.

The Titans now own nine selections in the 2016 draft, including six of the top 76 picks in the draft.

"It is not often that you have the number one overall pick and we hope to not be in this position again, but we tried to use that pick as currency to work the draft and maximize player acquisition," Titans general manager Jon Robinson said in a news release, adding, "We now have the ammunition to work the draft and acquire players that are good for this football team."

This marks the seventh trade involving the No. 1 overall pick since 1990 and the first since 2004, when the San Diego Chargers selected Eli Manning and traded his rights to the New York Giants.

The Rams traded away a high draft pick in 2012, sending the No. 2 overall selection to the Washington Redskins for three first-round picks and a second-rounder.

That's a huge haul the Rams gave up. Wow. They better be right with this pick. Rumor mill saying they want Wentz.

Schefter saying he thinks Cleveland is going to attempt to get similar return for the #2 pick. Will someone be that determined to get Goff, or even Tunsil or Ramsey?

Now the latest buzz is that the Rams want Goff, not Wentz, and felt they had to get past Cleveland to get him.

Based on what the Titans got for #1, I can't see Macc giving up that type of haul for #2. Unless he's in love with Wentz.

Now the titans can trade for mo for 3 of those picks. Maybe a draft day trade up from 20 to 15 for us.

The Rams did something similar in 2010 for Sam Bradford; how did that work out. Sign Fitz before he decides to retire and we're stuck with Geno.

agree. granted i haven't studied either of the 2 in great detail, but to me, neither screams franchise QB worthy of giving up the farm. to me, they look like the best of a weak class, at least in terms of elite talent.

Great move by the Titans. If Mariota is the one then this move will set them up for the future. They can just build around him.

For Rams, they better get it right. GL to them.

a tangential jets-related aspect of this trade could be that with the rams likely taking a QB #1, it becomes more likely the top 2 QBs go 1-2. which makes it less likely SF trades kaepernick to the broncos (thought was they would then target goff/wentz). which means that denver could revisit fitz

I hope the Tenny front office at least wore ski masks when they were pulling off that robbery

The teams that are cheering this trade the most are the Chargers and Cowboys.

Prior to this deal it was almost a forgone conclusion that the Titans would take Tunsil #1

Now it looks fairly certain that the two QB's (Wentz and Goff) are going 1 and 2 to the Rams and Browns, so that means Tunsil slides to the Chargers to fill their biggest need at LT, and this kid is a blue chip franchise LT prospect.

As for Dallas ...

Prior to this trade I had Ramsey to the Chargers at #3, but now Ramsey probably falls to the Cowboys at #4 to fill their biggest need at CB with a size/speed athletic freak who might be the best player in the draft.

IMO the two highest graded players regardless of position are Tunsil and Ramsey, both fill huge needs for SD and Dallas, and now, as a result of this trade, both are likely to fall right into their laps as they did in my updated mock draft.

I think Denver would rather start Sanchez than bid against us for Fitz. The question is, do the jets and Broncos both compete to trade up for Paxton? Fitz might not have a team this year.

Or the Jets acqiure Foles and trade Mo for additional picks and try to draft a developmental QB to groom for 2017...

I'am going against the grain here but i applaud the Rams for making this trade. Granted they had Kurt Warner 12 years back to win it all, so they went through a slump of retread QB's and an injury embattled QB. With that said, how many drafts will a team desperate for a QB take to land the guy that takes you to the top?

If the rumors are true with Mac vying for that #1 overall spot, i'am with him. If the team feels that either Goff or Wentz is their guy, then you make the block buster trade. Teams can build through free-agency around a young QB.

I'am actually hoping that Los Angeles takes Goff. I feel Wentz has so much more upside with his athleticism and arm strength. If he falls after Cleveland, i honestly hope Mac goes after him hard. I dont mind giving up the 2017 1st rounder because there isnt a QB worth taking next year in that class.
