Rams give Bradford permission to seek a trade

bradford makes $13 million this year and then is a free agent. so i would think if any teams trades for him, they will look to sign him to a new deal.

right now, he is the 16th highest paid QB based on average salary (his contract average happens to equal his 2015 pay). not sure how brady is making less on an annual basis then him, but bradford seems to slot in the right area. especially once guys like wilson, luck, newton come off their rookie contracts and make big bucks. so $13 million really is something like the 20th highest average contract for a QB

http://overthecap.com/position/quarterback/

so to me, with the jets cap space, they can easily afford to pay bradford $13 million this year, or work on a long-term deal in that annual range, which is basically gonna make him the 20th or so highest paid QB. obviously the injuries are a concern. i'd give up a 4th for him, or preferably do something like 55 suggests and make it a conditional 2016 pick based on games played and whether we sign him to an extension.

He's getting cut. No need to trade for him.

Unless you're confident he'll sign with us as a FA, OF COURSE you need to trade to guarantee you get the guy. And at the moment I have no idea what would make NYJ a more attractive option than the other 5+ teams that might be interested.

I don't think the issue is IF we should trade, but rather what trade would be acceptable . . .

We aren't trading for a QB with multiple years on his contract. I say you wait until he is released because then he picked the Jets as opposed to being traded and then walking after a year because he hates it.

Well, the good news is he doesnt have multiple years left on his contract...he has 1 year left.

Over his last 23 starts, he threw for 35 touchdowns and only 17 interceptions...I think he'll be more than "an interesting free agent," he'd be the best free agent QB since Peyton Manning. I'll be surprised/shocked if they cut him. But maybe.
he's also had major surgery to his thowing shoulder what, twice?? two ACLs operations on the same knee?? when the "lets trade for bradford" threads were happening durning last season on the jet boards you couldn't find anyone saying give up more than a 5th.. most said just wait for him to get cut.. now that the draft is approaching bradford is hot stuff again..

WOW.

Even though the Rams are denying it I suspect there is some truth. Rams probably want to see if they can get him to take a pay cut first, while his agent lines up suitors, and get a market value.

I doubt he'll be flat released. Just to many QB needy teams out there, and very few QB's. I like 55's plan. Conditional 3rd, that turns into a 2nd if he is still alive this time next year.

I'd wait until after the Jets pick in the first round, if Winston isn't on the board, and the Eagles aren't beating down our door for a trade. I pick up the phone and call the Rams.

Then if I'm Woody I donate a million dollars to some convent to have the nuns pray for Sam's health every day. :)

Yeah, you definitely wait until after the draft.

I think he'll restructure and stay with the Rams, but let's say he does get cut and go to free agency. The Jets would be a very logical landing spot for him. He could walk in and be the starter day one. He wouldn't have Johnny football on the bench behind him, he wouldn't have a QB killer at HC like Buffalo has, and he'd be in a big market with advertising opportunities. If nothing else, he could do ads for dentists and toothpaste...that man has almost perfect teeth.

Orthopedists and physical rehab facilities would also offer avenues for marketing opportunities.

Even if there was some "bidding war" (which there won't be), the Jets could get him at a much lower price and not have to give up any compensation.

He was born, raised, and went to college in...Oklahoma.

There's an amazing coach in Houston right now that got that craptastic roster to 9-7 last year and they just missed the play-offs. If Bill O'Brien gets his hands on Bradford, the Texans will be going places.

If Bradford hits the market, which is a big if/doubt, my guess is he's a Texan.

Could happen. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it though based on what I've seen of him.

Obviously his vision of the future is keener than his grasp of the present.

The last 3 years Bradford playing in the NFC West, Bradord is 5-2-1 against SF, Ari, and Seattle (playing with Ben & Jerry at WR and Nobody at RB)...but he's another Mark Sanchez...too much youtube videos for some around here I think...

Jeff Fisher says Sam Bradford trade report was “inaccurate”

Jeff Fisher made it clear Friday morning that he wants to keep Sam Bradford.

But he also made it clear he needs an option to the oft-injured quarterback going into this season.

Speaking at the podium at the NFL Scouting Combine, Fisher said reports that Bradford was allowed to seek a trade were “inaccurate,” but stressed that the Rams are definitely going to be adding to the position.

“I don’t know what that’s going to look like,” Fisher said. “It could be a veteran, could be a draft pick, . . .

“But it’s extremely important to have an option, yes.”

Fisher pointed out that Bradford is 5-2-1 against the NFC West during his time there. Of course, Fisher has been there three years now, so playing in eight of 18 possible division games also might be considered a negative.

Fisher also mentioned Shaun Hill and Austin Davis, probably out of courtesy as much as anything else. But it’s obvious the Rams want to have a dependable Plan B on hand in case Bradford ends up hurt again.

But they are going to lengths to make sure the former first-round pick feels comfortable, down to staffing hires. They consulted with Bradford before promoting quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti to offensive coordinator. And with that promotion, they wanted to backfill the position coach job with a former player.

They interviewed former NFL quarterbacks Jeff Garcia and Steve Walsh before hiring Chris Weinke, and Fisher said Weinke and Bradford had dinner during the process.

Fisher lauded Weinke, who had previously worked as a private quarterback instructor at the IMG Academy, and had helped prepare Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and others.

“The respect level from a player’s standpoint is very high,” Fisher said of getting a former player on staff. “We’re going to have a young quarterback, and I don’t think there’s anybody better to coach one.”

Of course, the priority is going to be Bradford, as long as he’s able.

yeah 55, I think this entire discussion is moot: St Louis isn't going to trade him--unless perhaps someone knocks them out with a ridiculous offer, which is unlikely.

That's what I think. I think they're looking at a 1st rd pick or a 2nd that becomes a 1 in the future based on playing incentives. I dont think they're looking for the cookie crumbs being tossed around here.

When healthy, he's at the level of a Big Ben, Rivers, or Matt Ryan, so they're looking for something that would make them not feel bad if he becomes Matt Ryan after traded...they're not looking for the 4th and 5th rd picks being tossed around internet chat boards.

LOL. In one post you say " Once he's released there will probably be a fair amount of interest in him from the teams you mentioned, plus the Jets" and 4 minutes later you say "There is not going to be any bidding war for Sam Bradford. If you want him, wait a month or so and sign him on your terms."

In other words, you're even trolling yourself. You probably need to find your way to the new Scout board, where being a low information, loudmouth d!ckhead is a membership requirement. Here's the link:

Have at it.

I understand things can get heated in the moment please just think before you type the argument went no further so no action is required just think before you post next time please.

we let good natured ribbing go with names once inawhile but if done with malicious intent like this it will not be just a warning next time

thanks

they should certainly look for that - and if someone will give them that, congrats

I would not give a 1st or a 2nd because

1. health risk - big

2. cap cost - big

Someone might and they no doubt hope someone will.
