Rapaport: Jets need a big return for Bridgewater

Ian Rapaport said on NFL Network that he’s hearing the Jets will not trade Bridgewater unless it’s a significant return. He said teams have called the Jets, but at this stage everyone’s already got their starters. Bridgewater is viewed as a backup.

Barring a major offer, looks like the Jets will keep Bridgewater as the primary backup (unless he earns it over the next two preseason games), and have him available for a trade if an injury happens somewhere else.

Amazing situation the Jets are in. Bridgewater is clearly beating out Darnold but not by much. In other words and we all see it, you can tell Bridgewater is more experienced and can do more out there but Darnold is right on his heels. With that said, if Darnold is close enough then you might as well play Darnold. Be something different if this was a SB team and Bridgewater would be the difference in the SB win or a loss in the SB or the AFC championship game. This is not the case.

We’re talking about a team that’s about a two game difference in the two but not a true playoff team either way. So you might as well play Darnold if see if you can get a haul for Bridgewater. Problem with that is nobody is biting on that right now. This is very interesting to see how this last 2-3 weeks turn out. Does Darnold keep the case staying on Bridgewater ‘s heels or does he outright surpass him or start to slip abit? Which QB will actually start? Does someone bite and offer that first rounder for Bridgewater? Question question questions, when will they get answered!!!

If/when another team's starter gets hurt, we'll get a high pick. If not, we'd be lucky to get a 3rd.

I m not buying the report. It's based on the Mehta story claiming his "sources" told him Mac has turned down 2 offers. Mac has proven to be very secretive and there's no way Mehta has any inside info. Nothing to report so let's make things up time of year.

The “D Man” was drafted 3rd overall after trading a lot of draft picks to get him, and has gotten rave reviews from just about every person of significance running this team (Macc, Bowles, Bates). And the veteran players are also very vocal about his maturity and ability.

I recognize that Bridgewater has looked good, but this competition is pretty much over. Darnold is getting most of the first team work, and is starting against the Giants. The writing is on the wall. It’s Darnold. And Teddy has gotten a chance to prove to other teams that he’s worthy of taking over for a starting QB in case of injury.

Everybody wins. Darnold is #1, Teddy gets his chance somewhere else, and the Jets hopefully get a nice return in the trade.

I hope the rave reviews aren't just because he was the 3rd pick and we gave up so much for him. I like him too but we've seen young qb's rushed in early with this team and fail and , as I always point out, the oline is not good. those same people have said great things about Teddy too. Like Butterscotch, I hope this turns out well either way but I'm not believing anything until I see it myself. And, personally, I had hoped the line would be improved before Darnold is thrown to the wolves. Don't want to see him out for the year like Andrew Luck

The rave reviews are coming from a lot of people inside this organization and his teammates. I read the Bleacher Report Twitter updates almost daily, and it’s unanimous what everyone’s saying about Darnold. He’s blown people away with his ability to process things and bounce back from mistakes. These are rare traits for a 21 year old guy. He’s not your typical rookie.

I do share your concerns about the o-line. I have not been impressed with the early returns from the two games I’ve watched. However Beachum and Winters are almost completely cleared, and that should help. Also Pryor, Enunwa, and Herndon are all playing against the Giants. Herndon has been opening eyes at camp. These weapons should also make life a little easier on Darnold.

Its almost scary the reviews on Darnold. I really like Teddy, but we needs pieces and we have a rare asset especially at QB. We need to cash that chip in if possible to speed up our rebuild. We aren't winning the SB or even our division so lets move Teddy for an OL, EDGE or draft pick/s. I've had my eye on Darnold for two years and the early returns are more than I could have hoped for as a Jets fan. However as a Jets fan, I'm cautious and guarded, but I just feel like Darnold is the guy we have waited 50 years for. Getting one year of experience is so valuable. People will say he will be ruined, but Aikman played on a 1-15 team and won a SB 3 years later.

Start Darnold first 2-3 games, see how he looks. If it's good, leave it be. If not, Bridgewater comes in until the kid can handle it...

Everybody wins if the D man plays well.....Again, I am not against him plus a few jet coaches think the B man should start first......All i am asking is to see more of both

That's the worst thing they can do with Darnold. If they start him, they have to ride it out.
pulling him only hurts his confidence.

If a team is going to lose their starting QB in the preseason this is the week it will happen, the third preseason game when starting QB's play about 3 Quarters. If it doesn't happen this week, it probably won't happen at all in the preseason cause week four the starters normally sit out the entire game.

If that happens, if no starting QB's go down with a serious injury this week, then I would go into the regular season with Teddy as the starter and if some team loses their QB at any point in the first six weeks, prior to the trade deadline which is the Tuesday following the sixth game, then the value for Teddy skyrockets and gets us an edge rusher, left tackle prospect or at worse allows us to recoup that 2019 2nd RD Pick we traded away for Darnold.

The likelihood that some team will lose their starting QB by week six is fairly high, but if it doesn't happen, then we make the switch to Darnold unless Teddy is tearing it up. It won't kill Darnold to sit, watch and learn for a little while, but I would start Teddy until some team loses their QB and his value really increases. I really want to maximize our return for Teddy because he's only 26, a former 1st RD Pick, and a legit starting QB in this league.

If he proves he's healthy and plays like I know he can, we should get a big return if some team loses their starting QB. Gotta be patient and wait it out.
