The oft-injured defensive back had played two games over the last two years and had missed all or most of three of his five NFL seasons going into 2021. Expecting him to be healthy for a full season seemed unlikely. But that’s exactly what happened.
Young is a good nickel cornerback who finally received a clean bill of health in 2021. But he’s just another player who could be released to create cap space. Young is currently the seventh-highest-paid player on the Ravens roster with a cap hit of $9.18 going into 2022. He will be entering the final year of his extension and would carry a dead cap charge of $3.34 million.
The Ravens could save roughly $5.85 million in cap space by cutting him which is over a third of their current cap space. Again, he’s a good player, but likely not one worth nearly $10 million.
