Just posting this as a discussion thread ... after all ... he is a hometown guy, New Rochelle HS & Rutgers, is the type of back many said we should sign (like CJ Spiller), still only 28 years old, could a one year veteran minimum be in the cards?

I think the Jets are done with getting the "Bad publicity" exchange. There are better options in the draft.

He paid the price.
Rice gets a new start.
If the Jets feel he can be an asset on the field, bring him on.
He's still got a lot of good football in him.

The former ringmasters of the Circus are now either running (or ruining) Buffalo and Miami. Richie Incognito is already on board. I'm certain RR, AP and probably Aaron Hernandez will soon be joining one or the other Big Tops

On a purely football aspect, Rice is done. He was on a severe downward arc before his issues surfaced. Now with him being radioactive no team is going to give up a roster spot for him unless desperate. The Jets are not desperate.

Not intending to start any arguments, just curious if you can justify a 6 year career perennial 1,000 yard rusher being characterized as on "a severe downward arc" because he had ONE season of ONLY 660 yards rushing & an additional 321 yards receiving?
981 yards of total offensive production seems a tad better than "on a severe downward arc" - given that Flacco & the BAL offense went on a bit of a passing upswing in 2013.
(619 passing attempts in 2013 vs 560 in 2012, 544 in 2011, & 491 in 2010.)

Well, let's see.

In 2011 Ray Rice rushed for 1364 yds. With an avg. of 4.7 yds/carry with 12 TDs and 76 receptions
In 2012 : 1143 yds. 4.4 yds/carry. 9 td's and 61 rec.

In 2013: 660 yds. 3.1 yds/carry. 4 TDs and 58 rec.

Rice never averaged less then 4.0 yds/carry until his last playing year in 2013. And if you watched him it was obvious he had lost some burst and was not the same player. Add to that the history of running backs in the league who's production falls off precipitously
once the inevitable decline starts due to the pounding the position dictates and you have the reason for my statement.

Seems like he is perfect for the Pats in all seriousness.

They definitely need RB help, belicheck has taken in lots of guys like this and we all know Bill loves Rutgers guys.
