No, and they probably won't. He's scheduled to make just north of a million dollars in 2016 (which includes his workout bonus), so money's not a big factor. Add the fact that, despite what his most virulent detractors think about him, the coaching staff doesn't appear to agree that "Geno sucks, Geno's a piece of crap, Geno should be waterboarded" (fill in the blank).

He'll probably stick around as Petty's competition for 2016, and then move on the following season. That would make the most sense.

*sigh* the same coaching staff that didn't see fit to give fitzpatrick the weekend off after thumb surgery??

yeah, the coaching staff believes in smith about as much as they do milliner..

at least milliner is not a extremely well documented creep like your guy smith is..

This is what I find hilarious about this debate. If you defend a guy in any way against the tireless screed of anti-Geno banter (or Milliner, for that matter) you're his "guy". Let's stop with this nonsense already. It's weak.

And I don't know why Bowles decided to play Fitzpatrick any more than you do. Although you do a good job of pretending to be inside the heads of decision-makers around here by routinely jumping to conclusions. Maybe Fitzptrick was good to go for the coaches? Maybe it had very little to do with your favorite whipping boy Geno Smith?

What I do know is this: you will continue to bash Geno Smith and anyone who defends him. That's a foregone conclusion. It's what you do.

look, if you want to pretend/play devil's advocate on why smith & milliner get no playing time, knock yourself out.. continue to defend the indefensible, it's what you do.. life is short, do what makes you happy..

ironic choice of an avatar on your part, BTW..

So if you state the absolute fact that Geno Smith is the worst piece of crap ever to fail as an NFL QB you are a "hater full of tireless screeds"

Sorry

He sucks and his 800K is 800K too much by far

I look forward to his release so that real QBs like Fitz and Petty and a draft pick/vet free agent get the full reps they need

Yes, let's keep it on topic. There's plenty of places to discuss Geno and Milliner being cut.

You don't know why? Well I do....... It's because he didn't trust Geno to make the right decisions on the football field. This, when Fitz and Geno were thought to be so close in playing ability. It's because Todd Bowles did NOT trust Geno after another sh*tty performance against the Raiders.

And the Jets will likely draft another QB after resigning Fitz and promoting Bryce Petty to be the backup. When that happens, Geno is right out the f*cking door where he belongs.

all but smith's most loyal apologists "don't know why" at this point.. smith is a bad NFL QB with no leadership skills to speak of & has a laundry list of things that point to him being an absolute dick..

baring miraculous changes of fortune both health wise & game play, milliner is getting ready to become one of the biggest busts in jets history.. but this guy will try & tell you that no conclusions can be drawn on bowles' opinion of either smith or milliner.. mind you, milliner didn't play one damn snap the last 8 weeks of the season with no injury issues.. at least bowles was reported as saying he was healthy during that stretch.. he was healthy enough to play on special teams because he he damn sure did..

but there simply must be some undisclosed explanation why bowles refused to let either one on the field last season a second longer than necessary.. to hear this guy tell it anyway.....

The Philadelphia Eagles cut veteran linebacker DeMeco Ryans on Wednesday, according to the team.

Ryans, 32, would have cost $4.5 million against the cap this upcoming season, reported Phil Sheridan of ESPN, a high price for a player likely to serve as a backup in the 2016 season. That made his release somewhat inevitable.

Ryans was a solid contributor after joining the Eagles in 2012, accumulating 334 tackles, five interceptions, five sacks and two fumble recoveries in 54 games. Ryans has been voted to two Pro Bowls in his career (in 2007 and 2009), was the NFL 2006 Defensive Rookie of the Year and was voted to a second-team All-NFL selection by the Associated Press in 2007.

But the Eagles have solid depth at linebacker, even if the team is still figuring out where exactly Mychal Kendricks, Kiko Alonso, Jordan Hicks and Najee Goode (a special teams standout) will fit into the 4-3 scheme Jim Schwartz will be installing in Philadelphia.

It seems likely Kendricks and Alonso will be moved to outside linebacker after playing inside in the team's 3-4 scheme last year, while Hicks will remain in the middle after an impressive rookie season. That made Alonso an expensive backup, so it seems the Eagles released him to free up cap space.

The 31-year-old will likely find a home with a team looking to bolster its linebacker corps, however. He'll provide leadership and experience and can still compete at a fairly high level, even if it's clear he's lost a step at this point in his career.
