One thing the media is forgetting when ripping on the Jets for the timing (although they didn't rip on other teams who did the same). Who are the Jets bidding against for these candidates, especially by all accounts a top candidate like Douglas? There are no other teams seeking GMs right now.

Oh come on, when have the Jets ever mucked anything up??

Yeah right.................and I get your point. I seem to always become a nervous nelly whenever they are faced with making crucial decisions. I guess that's probably an ailment suffered by many Jets fans.

The Jets conducted a second round of talks with the four GM candidates, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. The four are Joe Douglas (Eagles), Scott Fitterer (Seahawks), Champ Kelly (Bears) and Terry Fontenot (Saints). This means the Jets are in the homestretch. Douglas still is considered the favorite, but these situations can be fluid. There's a lot to be ironed out with regard to salary and staffing.

I'm not ready to believe Joe is out just yet. I heard before that they were quibbling over the money which is to be expected in such a negotiation, but to not get the best man for the job because of the money would be absolutely and magnanimously stupid. The money for staff doesn't come out of the same pocket so there is no limit to how much they can budget for him and his staff. This however is what I was referring to in my above post when I said I hope the Jets don't muck it up. They have no common sense when it comes to money. They over pay consistently for players then try to cheap out on a valuable team builder. I'm holding my breath on this position fill even though any one of the four they are looking at would be acceptable to me. Joe would be my number one choice though.

Truth is, the best group of candidates we've had for this position in a long, long time. I'd be happy with any of them.

NEW WRINKLE, Texans just fired their GM and are also looking for a replacement. Jets better get their arse in gear quick or get left playing second fiddle.

Just in 21 minutes ago, according to Jason Mcintyre of Fox Sports if we can believe him, the Jets and Douglas have agreed to terms. He is, supposedly, getting more money and a longer contract than Gase.

UPDATE : It was also announced on the NFL site. It would appear that Joe Douglas is now a Jet. Welcome aboard Joe.

Great early work and reporting Ham and your source is obviously on point! By the way, did your source say that this year, the Jets were going to win the division with at least 11 wins and then go on to win a Super bowl:global (21):

Andre Dillard, the best LT to come out of college in years who protects the QB like he was his little brother. He was on your list of top 10 prospects as well.

I love how the media turned the Jets negotiating with Douglas to further their "Jets are a circus" storyline.

Like it's the first time a team and candidate have negotiated over money. It's ridiculous. ANYTHING the Jets do gets ripped on.
