Remember when we kept saying there's no Andrew Luck in this draft?

True, but what they would have to do is essentially establish the draft pick equivalent of Foles, something both teams agree on, then subtract that number of draft chart value points from the trade, then make up the difference in picks.

So lets say the Eagles and Jets make a deal and they agree that Foles is the equivalent of a 2nd RD Pick.

The difference between 6 and 20 is 750 VP's (value points)

If we agree that Foles is the equivalent of the 2nd RD Pick the Eagles have in this draft (#52 ), that would be 380 VP's, so we subtract 380 from 750 and they still have to give us approximately 350 VP's in draft picks.

So if we agreed Foles is the equivalent of a 2, the trade would look something like this:

The Eagles move up from 20 to 6

The Jets move down from 6 to 20

The Jets add the Eagles 2nd RD Pick in this draft, #52 Overall

(#52 = 380 VP's, slightly more than the 350 they owe us, but thats fine because 350 is RD 2 in the same vicinity)

The Jets acquire Nick Foles in the deal as well.

==

Of course we would get significantly more if we agreed Foles is worth a 3 instead of a 2, but this is what the deal would look like if we put the value of a 2 on Nick Foles. Just to give folks an idea of how the chart works.

And I would make that trade in a blink! A lot less than trading with the Raiders or Titans

From the Geno Smith 2013 draft through this upcoming 2015 one...the only QB that I've been excited over as a top 10 pick...is Winston. Excellent footwork...throws with touch...and has more then enough arm strength. But more importantly...a cockiness that comes from knowing that he's real good. And smart. As anyone can see with Winston impressing former HC Steve Mariucci, by breaking down that play on the White Board at the Combine. He's a real student of the game. He can dominate with his arm and he certainly dominates with his personality. IMO a true heir to Joe Willie. And his cockiness reminds me of Keyshawn Johnson. He knew he could deliver on a big stage. Winston is like that too.

No...Winston is not Andrew freaking Luck. A guy who took a legitimate god awful team to an 11-5 record and the playoffs in his first year! Then did it twice more with the Colts still having significant holes on both sides of the ball. Winston is not that guy. But he has more then enough tools, smarts and leadership qualities to be special someday in his own right.

Mariota...like those other 2013-2015 QBs...I'm not excited about picking in the Top 10.

Cards HC Bruce Arians wasn't ridiculing Mariota when he was criticizing the college spread offensive systems. He was telling it real. When you look at the Oregon offense...it looks like a video game the way the QB operates it. And then you hear that Mariota is...in the shower...in bed...etc...lol!...practicing barking out plays. He's preparing for his new career...for when he's in an NFL huddle.

Seeing how hard it's been for Geno Smith to get rewired from his simple spread shotgun offense into an NFL Pro style. Struggling with all the things he's been asked to do. It just makes it more difficult for me to get a good handle of what to expect from Mariota. When he's directly over the center looking at a real NFL defense, and attempting to execute plays at an average of 2.5 seconds. Is he going to make a successful transition? Or will he join a large graveyard of failed QBs and just be another journeyman QB?

If Chip Kelly offers the farm to the Jets to get Mariota. IMO Jets should take that booty and fill their slim talent laden barn with it.

I think you really underestimate the intelligence of players...they know their teams strengths and weaknesses maybe not a game plan totally specific..but they know what is real..and what is going through the motions....

+1 Agree. As an Ex College player I can honestly say that not all players are dumb nuts ! I guarantee that 90% of the players were smarter than Rex.

Go Jets...Cyborg

Such a shame.... Jets always hurt themselves. Congrats Geno on your perfect QB rating in week 17!

We were not getting the top spot anyway. The win that bothers me was the Titans game. That was an awful game with no redeeming value. If that idiot on the Titans doesn't get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty taunting Decker after a 3rd down incompletion late in the 4th quarter, the Jets lose. The Miami game doesn't kill me because the Jets played very well and it was nice to see Geno and Decker finally have a huge game. If we had lost the Titans game we would be picking 4th rather than 6th.

It would be nice if the jets had the luxury of turning down Winston or trading the 1st overall pick. That's why you don't keep a coach you plan on firing who knows he's going to stay in the nfl. It was in rexs best interest to make sure the jets had the worst possible pick, and to win as many meaningless games as possible.

Keeping Rex after he bye week was a mistake. I said so then I still believe it now.

The problem with Winston outside of his off the field stuff is his consistency of play. He plays poorly early in games and has more then his fair share of turnovers. He has a big time ability to turn that around in win games but is playing like that going to work in the NFL?

IMO he is a gunslinger. He is kind of Brett Favre like. He doesn't have Favres arm though. I don't think Winston will work out long term because he will be forced to play week one. He will be on a bad team and he will be a turnover machine. In the end this will hurt his career. I say this with the idea that he goes #1 .

This type of thing really annoys me. The idea of losing games for draft picks. When did the draft become a sure bet? You never know how an player will turn out or how the board will fall. This is especially not known in Dec/Jan.

Look back. Does having a top pick in the draft mean success going forward? History would say in most cases NO! If have a top pick was so great then why do the same teams consistently have those picks year in and year out?

There isn't even an Andrew Luck in this draft to hope for anyway.

Not a sure thing but I would feel better now with the first or second pick than the sixth.
I bet you would also.

Why? What does that guarantee us? We have lots of needs. I'm just as comfortable with #6

If Luck was in this draft or Peyton Manning then Yea I would feel a lot better with the top pick but there is no one even close to that in this draft.

Your opinion makes sense, but consider this- how much did Washington give up for a hot qb at 2? Not only does the first pick give you your to choice, but it gives you the best pick in all of the rounds, and it gives YOU the choice of first refusal, on top of major trade bait.

I'm not going to say it doesn't have its benefits. How often do we see trades in the top 1 or 2 picks? Not much because price tag is to rich for most.

It guarantees us the 1st or 2nd pick rather than than the 6th and if we have any faith in our new regime which we should that gives then a better chance of landing the player they want.

And because elite qbs are so rare top draft teams don't let the opportunity of drafting a franchise qb go.
A major point to remember though, recurring bottom feeder (1st overall pick) teams like Tampa Bay and Oakland, are historically poorly run and draft poorly. So those teams not becoming successful after drafting the no1, doesn't prove that having the top pick isn't beneficial.

So a team like the jets, sniffing the playoffs most seasons, doesn't get a top 3 pick often, and therefore must capitalize on this opportunity to draft with the 6 or trade down.

Hopefully we land Mariota at 6 because he is going to be a far better NFL QB than Winston IMO and allow us to finally rid the Jets of the stench of Suckchez/Geno that has been hanging over the Jets for the last six full seasons.

It will be great to watch our first elite NFL QB since the late 60s in action

Walton blew our chance at Marino, Parcells blew our chance at Peyton...Hopefully Macc finally hits the jackpot in April

It does? I guess in theory but who is to say that elite player is there? I actually think in a way it forces you into a pick.

I could agree on that. This still does not justify losing games for higher draft picks IMO.

There is no no sense continuing this dialogue if you believe a 6th pick is as good as a 1st or 2nd pick
