Per the report, both players involved in the trade would likely need to restructure their contracts and pass physicals in order to make the deal happen, though it can't be finalized until March 9.
The Dolphins could have saved $7.2 million in cap space by releasing Albert on Thursday, but the team reportedly held off on doing so after receiving a trade offer.
A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Albert originally signed a $47 million contract with the Dolphins in 2014, a deal which runs through the 2018 season.
Thomas is currently slated to make $24.7 million over the next three seasons, including a guaranteed $3.1 million in 2017.
The 28-year-old Thomas has 184 receptions for 2,013 yards and 33 touchdowns over the past four seasons, the first two of which were spent with the Denver Broncos.
