The New York Jets are one of a series of teams who have reached out to veteran free agent linebacker Zach Orr, according to a report from the New York Post on Thursday.
Orr retired in January because of a spinal condition, but announced on Wednesday that he was considering an NFL comeback after receiving a more optimistic medical report from doctors.
Already, he has visited with the Detroit Lions in an effort to return to football.
Undrafted by Baltimore three years ago, the 25-year-old Orr is still in prime playing age, so it is no surprise that teams are interested in acquiring him, but naturally his health will play the primary role in if that interest goes any further.
The Jets recently released veteran linebacker David Harris, though added Demario Davis in a trade with Cleveland that saw the departure of safety Calvin Pryor, and signed free agent Spencer Paysinger to the position.
Orr had 132 tackles last season, the NFL’s eighth-most, and by far his best career outing. He has three career interceptions, a sack, a forced fumble, and two recoveries.
