Report: Jets had solid offer for #1

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, the Jets made a big offer to move up to #1, including Wilkerson as part of the deal. Much speculation that the Jets are ready to move on from Fitzpatrick, and have a lot of interest in either Wentz or Goff (as evidenced by the attempt to trade up to #1), as well as Paxton Lynch. Cole thinks the Jets will make an aggressive move to try to move up for Lynch.

If they made the move, not sure it has any thing to do, one way or the other, with Fitz. In all honesty I don't want to see either of these QB's starting this season. Jets are looking toward the future. Plus it's the best way to get full value for Wilkerson

With that said, Fitz better get off the pot real soon. I had no problem with him trying to get a big deal, that window has closed. IMO the Jets made him another offer in the 9-10 area, that will be their last one. If he hasn't excepted it by the draft, if I was Macc I would make a deal for Glennon.

The good news here is that if the Titans were interested in Wilkerson to except him as compensation, they probably still are and have a lot of loot to play with

Lynch is coming in for a visit today, I believe. If he impresses maybe we trade up but can we afford to lose more picks?

I don't think we need to trade up for Lynch.

If we stay put at 20 I believe he will fall to us there like he did in my updated mock draft.

I believe that because the Rams moved up for Wentz. If they had stayed at 15 I think they would have taken Lynch in that spot, but I can't see the 49ers (7) or Eagles (8) taking Lynch in the TOP 10, its too soon, they would be leaving blue chippers on the board who grade out much higher. I think its more possible Philly can reach, not the 49ers who are still locked into a huge contract with Kappy, but IMO #8 is just too soon for Lynch, he's not a TOP 10 Pick, high ceiling but not a slam-dunk franchise QB by any means.

After that, unless some team trades up, there's no team 9 thru 19 who would take a QB in my view. Maybe the Bills at 19, but Rex seems to like the young QB they have now.

So I believe Lynch slides to us at 20 if we just stay put.

With what the Rams gave up, I am glad the Jets did not make the deal.

As for Lynch, there may be some maneuvering, especially if both Wentz and Goff are off the board in the first few picks.

Whose gonna take Lynch before 20?

Will the 49ers pass on Bosa and Buckner at 7 for Lynch?

I doubt it, that would be GM malpractice.

Will the Eagles pass on Bosa or Ezekiel Elliott?

Its possible, but IMO you're leaving an elite blue chip prospect on the board for a non slam dunk at QB.

Unless these teams trade back into the mid to late teens, I can't see them reaching for Lynch where they are now.

After that, 9 thru 19, who is taking Lynch?

Unless there's a trade, I think he's falling to us at 20.

Well, SF could trade back. That is a possibility, especially if they deal CK. Or some team could trade up in, or into, the first round.

I'm not saying it's probable, but it is possible.

I agree, though, that the teams from 9-19 are pretty well set at QB.

ok, even if we accept that premise, how can you be sure no one trades up for lynch? that's a huge "unless" in your statement.

fwiw, i'm not sure if i would trade up (at least give up much) for lynch. not sold on him, but would have to defer to the front office, coaches and scouts. obviously gailey would have to think he's someone he can groom

I don't follow college so lets put the players on the sidelines for a minute

-------------------
If mac does this & he knows the player he wants go for it. All of you know how I have been saying I need to see more. He needs to get us a QB not table scraps...well just do it.

Well if if If If he does this right he will move up the ladder towards a great GM.

Why do we want to fa_ t around with fitz. You know what he is got after all these years. let him go play for Alberta

Now one more thing Geno Lets face it we know what we have with Fitz but we really don't know the 2016 25 year old Geno. (remember I don't like him) But the one in ten or two out of nine says he could still be good. if they get rid of him so be it but. But before I get slammed remember the jets know the real geno so if they don't think he has nay shot all bets are off & toss him curb side.

If we go into this year with Geno , Petty & a young Qb from the draft we have three chances at a top QB.

Again, this year is not a year I expect to win so I am looking at the future. It would be fun with three chances at the Qb Lotto. this is what I want If Big mac feels he has the QB. It is time for him to sink or swim

agreed..

these are the kind of deals that get GM's fired if things don't work out well..... obviously that's not lost on mac so if he really did put in his bid for the 1st pick he believes in wentz, goff or both..

that said, it's almost impossible to overpay for a true franchise QB..

Right on both counts, J13, if you get this kind of trade wrong it will almost certainly get you fired, but if you get it right, nobody will care how much you paid for a franchise QB.

I agree & you know what you get fired anyway

I look at it this way If you do what everyone else wants & lose & then get fired you will think about it the rest of your life. If you do what you want & get fired you will only think about it every other day. No really don't live someone's life but your own.

Even if you do what someone else wants & win (rare) you will never feel complete.

Wow, we would of have to given up a haul. Obvi, they think Goff or Wentz is the real deal.

They must not think Petty is coming along fast enough or at all really to entertain or offer anything substantial for the #1 pick. Now with talks of them possibly being interested in Lynch. This must not be a good sign for Petty. Damn shame to, I was hoping he was or our answer so they can seek other positions to build around him. Seems like they are ready to move on from Fitz which if true, I have no problem with that aswell.

Damn shame! To me this means Petty isn't ready. He hasn't progressed enough, so the Jets are looking else where. I was really hoping Petty would be ready to take over this year but I guess not. Glad the Jets are ready to move on from Fitz, if this all is true. Time to build for the future while still trying to win now. I like it!

It could mean one of two things:

1. The team is concerned about Petty's development, or
2. The team is using the Wolf strategy of drafting a QB every year until you hit on your franchise QB.

Remember, Woody brought Wolf in to help in the GM search, so that may play a role here, as well.
