Report: Jets had solid offer for #1

This is the definition of a rumor. Macc turns over every stone and wants to see what it would take to get a certain pick. The draft is its own playing field, and you need to know where everyone stands. You don't wait till draft day when you're on the clock to start figuring out values on trades. This my friends is poker.

It means nothing about nothing.

And even if it is true that they made a strong attempt to move up, it is nothing more than speculation that it was in order to draft a QB. What if it was to grab Tunsil, or some other non-QB? No one really knows so there seems to be little point in speculating what this rumor means wrt Petty or anything else.

Of course it's all speculation. But since reading the tea leaves is the name of the game around here most of the time, I'm just giving my guess as to what's probably happening.

I think the Jets made a strong offer to Tennessee, and the Rams beat the offer with a bigger offer. I don't think Macc makes that move for Tunsil, Ramsey, or any other non-QB. He's making that move for Wentz or Goff. And lastly, a move for Wentz or Goff means we're moving on from Fitz. Petty, Geno, and Wentz/Goff have a training camp competition for the starting job.

Of course, unless the Browns are interested in making a trade with the Jets for Wilkerson, then this entire scenario isn't happening. Wilkerson would have to agree to a multi year deal with the Browns to make that happen, too. Would Mo want to go to Cleveland?

Exactly. Career suicide for the GM that makes a move like that to grab a Tackle

personal preference...unless Wentz is available, I can't see ponying up mega package to move to #2. Not sure Lynch is all that enticing either to move much. Jets are just in a terrible spot at the position of QB. They don't trust what they have - don't wanna pay what they don't have - and probably can't move up high enough to get who they should have

This tells me they don't like the early returns of the Petty pick. You don't do something like this,if you feel good about him.

I don't think so - Petty is a 4th round project - not a guy you're planning on starting year 2. As Macc said, ability-wise they feel he could be a quality #2; that he has the physical tools to potentially be a starting caliber QB but he's got to improve all of the other aspects of his game and show that on the field. That's pretty much what you're thinking about when you draft a 4th round QB, so I wouldn't say they don't like the early returns, seems like they're about what you'd expect.

the harsh reality of it all is that at this point Petty is no better than Geno Smith. That to me is not an option. keep drafting until you hit gold. Hell, I'll take some silver

Petty will be the guy... Mark my words....
it would be beyond ideal.. maybe we found "our guy" in the 4th round.. who could argue we aren't overdue for that kind of good fortune??

it's funny how thought processes change when the draft is around the corner.. i wanted no part of picking a QB before the middle of the draft.. LOLz now i'm hoping like hell lynch falls to us at 20..

I hope so, but not likely, especially this year. Let's face it, Geno was considered 10x the prospect and considered a better value than Petty where we took him.

curious how you know petty isn't the guy and is no better than geno? if we are gonna base it on never seeing him play in a real game as a rookie, then you can say that about every draft pick, since we've never seen any of them play a real nfl game.

now i'm all in favor of drafting a QB this year, although i'm not a fan of moving up to #2 or so to get him. and i'm not sold on lynch, at least if we need to trade up. my preference would probably be to take the BPA in the 1st (if it's a QB, so be it, but imo, more likely a QB won't be the BPA) and look for a QB in rounds 2 or 3. someone like cook (can't believe i'd be ok with a spartan) or hackenburg very well could be the best QB in this draft
