I'm not sure he's displeased with the offers he has, if he has any. Just because he hasn't accepted any yet doesn't mean he intends to turn them down. He may just be waiting to let this play out as long as he can, in the event the market changes in his favor, like it did with Romo's injury.
well, as i've already stated in this thread, i believe mehta is lying..

I think this is nothing more than hot air. FO is doing their job of fielding offers. The bottom line is they won't get an offer sweet enough to let a second rounder like Geno go; and they haven't seen enough of Petty against a first team defense to throw him to the wolves. Unless they receive an offer they can't refuse like a player, I see nothing happening right now.

That whole BS with Charlie Casserley stating that "Geno Smith is the best back up in the NFL" clamour hopefully works in Mikes favor. I believe Charlie actually behind the scenes threw his two cents out there to subliminally help out Mac get rid of Smith via a trade to get atleast something out of him.

I know this is pure speculation but lets not forget, these two are very very very good friends. Charlie is the main guy that brought Maccagnan to the fore front when Woody was searching for a General Manager. I see Charlie, who the NFL takes his word very seriously. absolutley trying to help Mike out in getting some sort of value for a player that the fron office is sick and tired of.

Just look at the reps Geno is getting at practice and the limited amount of playing time he's gotten in games. You'd think management pulls him early just so that his play doesn't hinder his trade value.

Many of Mehtas stories are pure fabrication just to sell an article for some sort of publicity, sure we've all known that. But make no mistake, this isn't at all "Hot air".

How about a trade with Cowboys involving Smith and perhaps Milliner for Claiborne and Leary, essentially one reclamation project for another with a couple of throw-ins. These sort of trades never happen in the NFL, but I got to thinking outside of the box a bit about Claiborne and maybe a change of scenery and scheme would help him find his potential. Just a thought, maybe not a realistic or good one but a thought nonetheless.

The team should be listening to offers. Carrying four QB's is unconventional, to say the least. If you can get a draft pick for Geno, as opposed to nothing, I think all of us can agree that that's preferable. Maybe Geno needs a fresh start somewhere else. Despite an up and down career, he's shown some ability to move the chains with his arm and feet.

If I'm Dallas, I'm checking that out. Dak looks good, but that's a risky proposition going with the rookie as your starter until Romo gets back.

I like this idea... You are right never happens in the NFL but certainly one that both teams should do.

So now with the Bridgewater injury, things on the trade front should be getting pretty interesting. I hear that Geno will not be playing Thursday, does that mean that Petty is being showcased? I read that might be the play here and not Geno. Regardless, Vikes are in a win now mode and may be willing to part with a mid-round pick to hopefully salvage their season. Radio guys (Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller of Sirius) were saying that the teams that Vikes will be calling are Browns (McCown), Jets (Geno/Petty) and Denver (Sanchez) and that a 3rd or 4th won't be out of the question. Interesting to say the least.

I like the idea but it Has to be Geno that is traded.

We can't risk a young QB going elsewhere and being that ONE!

By all accounts it won't be Geno who does it!

Not one of those QB's will yield a 3rd or 4th rd pick....... Conditional 6th rounder at best

I would agree if all we were talking about is the Cowboys, but the Vikings situation is much different. Cowboys need a backup or a veteran to hold the fort until Romo comes back, Vikes with playoff aspirations and a shiny new stadium need a starter. They are in a desparate mode right now and may have to overpay. MM might be in a great selling situation. Hopefully its Geno that he can sell.

Maybe a conditional 5th for Geno... Can't see more than that

this was the very reason the Jets chose to continue to display Geno, because now at least two teams have a need in finding replacements for their starters while others have a need for a quality backup...

this off-season Macc was on record saying they are comfortable with Petty as the backup ( albeit Fitz was not signed and Geno was the substitute starter )... can't really see any reason why that would of changed from then to now... Petty has proved his worth thus far in preseason in live reps working nevertheless with the 3's & 4's, but have to look at it like this those players have everything to gain by playing hard and full throttle and Bryce succeeded not only executing at a high level but came out unscathed...

like I said last year Bryce Petty fits this game plan better than Geno does, Petty has a bigger arm with more accuracy both on the deep ball and scramble... the similarity to Fitz is uncanny except for one thing he is still developing and can only supersede the Fitzmagic current level of play into something really special... yes Hackenberg could be the future down the road but Petty is one step closer in someone who could be the future as soon as next year...

to put it into terms Geno Smith is entering his fourth season and has improved minimal in strides to what Bryce Petty has done in one season in the NFL... there is no debate on whether the team should part with it is clear that Petty has surpassed anything Geno has tried to accomplish to this point... playing time aside, knowledge of this system along with the physical gifts to master from under center or in the shotgun Petty is a need more than a luxury compared to Geno fans still cringe when he is on the field because they are waiting for the hammer to drop (usually doesn't take long)...

the only reason to keep Geno is hoping we get a good compensatory pick when he signs elsewhere next off-season but as everyone sees nowadays it is smarter to draft then grab another teams' waste... trading Geno to a team like Minnesota, actually fits the style for Geno dink and dunk and let AP run the ball while playing good not great defense... if Minny does offer anything expect it to be a day 3 pick and maybe a conditional pick on snap count or something ridiculous like that...

this is what makes mehta's claim the jets have fielded multiple inquiries for smith but maccagnan in his infinite wisdom is holding out for an even bigger bag of rocks??

yeah, that's what maccagnan's doing..

Well, I think that part of it is malarkey as well. But I think Mac making every attempt to trade him is only what's smart. If we can get something out of him before he exits, I am all for that. Personally, I cannot see anyone giving even so much a dime for the retard, but to explore the option is only due diligence.

With a team in a win-now mode, I would think Geno is preferable to Petty. Petty has more upside, but whether in Florham Park or elsewhere, he is a bit of a project. Teams generally opt for the veteran when taking a backup QB.

I agree with everything, except I would explore every single trade option to the last second before cutting him. When it comes to QBs, the market is just different than any other position, and you don't know what a team might offer to solidify that position.

Yeah, I was thinking that very thing, just forgot to type that portion....

Actually the Vikes offense isn't anything close to dink and dunk... They are run, beat up the L"s draw in the safeties.... and go over the top.. Norv's trademark O... Run to open up the deep passing game.

yes but that offense suits Geno better even tho he is far from an accurate deep passer they have receivers/tight ends that can make up for his lack of accuracy... by chance the vikes take Geno then Norv. would utilize more of that dumbed down offense to help Geno not be Geno... :global (12):

I'd give up a Ryan Leaf Card for Geno! Bostin Panties needs a Geno as back up! Just take over Genos pay is all I would ask for Geno.
