Everyone please heed these words... Seaver is right get your heart checked.... Let me share my story with you.... 11/23 was my bday... I turned 44... But in July of 2012 on a friday night I felt a little pinch in my chest on the left side.. Nothing really painful best way I can describe it is, you know how a new born baby will grab your finger and for a tiny lil baby you go geez nice grip, yeah thats about it... but it felt that way for about 10 minutes... That feeling happened to me sevral times through out the weekend.... Finally monday morning a good friend of mine at work took me to the ER. He wasn't messing around. He knows my Dad past away of a heart attack at 56 and had an experience with another friend who went to a quick care and told him he was fine only to go home that night and have a heart attack and almost die.
Long story short.... Every test came back fine but my blood test came back with a lil bit of troponin in it. Troponin is an enzyme the heart gives off went it goes under duress... A high level indicates heart attack... I didn't have a heart attack. Matter of fact the troponin level was so low the ER dr said it's most likely heart burn.. But she felt due to my age, family history and the troponin I should see a cardiologist... Saw the cardiologist ran more tests all came back great... But the cardiologist looked at me verbatim said "Louis, my gut says if I let you leave this hospital you will die of a heart attack in the parking lot"... No joke I was like wtf... way to overreact.... He then said he was going to do a surgery, which I didn't want to do, but my ex-wife made me do, at least she was good for that.. anyway the surgery was a cardio cath to see if there are any blockages in the arteries to my heart.... Dr said I probably won't find anything but my gut says check it out it's better to be safe then sorry.... Well thats what he said when he was putting me under.... When I woke up he looked at me and said Louis I have no idea how you are alive... Your Left Main Artery was 99% blocked.... in teh medical dictionary the Left Main Artery is nicknamed the widow maker.... A little back story after father passed away I was 5'7' and 200lbs.... I decided I need to get in shape... I lost 43lbs and I was running 3-4 miles a day lifting weights and I was in great shape... So when I woke up and the dr said i was a few days from my heart exploding. I was in shock... thought to myself why the hell am I in the gym 5-6 days a week if I almost died anyway... Well once the shock wore off the Dr made me realize being in great physical shape was what kept me alive longer than I probably should have...
Sorry so long guys... Cy passing hits close to home on several levels and we may argue and disagree like crazy here but we are all connected thanks to our team.... Lets take care of ourselves and each other.... We all have have friends, family, loved ones and each other to be around for, for a long time.. Go get a physical... If you need to get in shape and eat right do it, just not tomorrow
Lets stay alive so one day we can be blessed to see this team win a Super Bowl....
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone,
Lou
