Jets still have some bad habits, especially in penalties. I am hoping Bowles' influence will reduce those in time. I have little hope or faith of that happening in Buffalo.

Biggest difference in the penalties is that most Jets penalties were not dumb penalties, undisciplined personal fouls or 12 men penalties or not knowing the snap count. Most were calls on the secondary. Rex's seemed to be a lot of personal fouls and the such, undisciplined penalties.

Perhaps most concerning from Buffalo's standpoint is that Rex spoke more glowingly about his team's double-digit loss than Bowles did about his team's double-digit win.

That's an excellent point. The penalties to me were bs pi calls and not offsides/false starts

Rex needs to hire someone to handle discipline, on and off the field. I know that's his job, but he's not good at it. His teams constantly kill themselves with penalties and mental errors.

Yep.

Penalties killed them today. With that said, the Jets had 14 penalties for, I think, a mile and a half. That needs to be addressed very soon.

The Jets rushed DB's a jaw dropping 22 times today. That left a lot of people in man to man. There was a lot of cluthcing, and grabbing going on. Still it's hard to argue with 18 straight 3rd down stops

Dolphins committed a blatant PI, that was ignored by the refs. That's why I take PI with a grain of salt.

And yes, Rex will never win close games with his lack of discipline. He basically needs to blow you out

I watched his presser yesterday and my only thought was thank God he is no longer the Jets HC.

i admit that I was a big Rex Ryan fan and thought the last few years here he got screwed with an incompetent roster but as more time passes and I see Todd Bowles coaching the team, I realize what a relief it is to have Bowles as HC.

Right now, if Rex was coach, we'd be hearing how we are gunning for the Pats and how we have the greatest defense. There's a place to talk crap and a place to be serious. Glad he's gone now. Let's hope that Macc continues adding to this roster so Bowles can do his job correctly.

Agreed, and I liked Rex when he was here, but that show ran it's course. Don't know how long he last in Buffalo, he never learns.

The Bills had , I believe, 17 accepted penalties yesterday. 17! And 4 of those were personal foul penalties.
That to me reeks of lack of discipline and accountability. And these two characteristics were among Rex's biggest flaws as Jets HC.

With Bowles and Mac, it seems like adults are now running the Jets. Rex and his crew always seemed a little juvenile to me...

He said he likes the fight the Bills have. He is clueless as to how to coach a team to play football, that team will keep on losing. It will be very difficult for him to get that team under control, the Bills can't fire him too soon. I'm not one of those people that ever thought this guy could coach, he's a press release going from team to team earning big money for running his mouth off. Last year the Bills were 9 - 7, look out below, they're coming down.
It does make it easier for the rest of the AFC East!

The Bills had 135 yards in penalties against the Giants - two of those penalties resulted in Bills TD's being called back. Late in the 1st half they had THREE penalties in a row,- when the Gnats were set to punt it, giving the Bills the ball. - That kept the Gnats dive alive & resulted in points - which they never would have had w/o help form the Bills.
.
Rex is Rex, he needs to change, but like the rest of us he can't. - He likes "being part of the team," (any team) but has no idea or desire on how to separate himself from "his players" and lead the d*mn team. - Purely a guess on my part, - but I'd bet the new owners in Buffalo are already questioning the decision on hiring him. - There's talent there & it's not being used.

Give Rex credit for this: he had no problem starting a young unknown in Tyrod Taylor, and so far that's working out pretty good. He's not a franchise QB but he's good enough and might get better.

I know I am a little late on the discussion of last week's Bills game but this is Rex's actual quote. The team had 17 penalties called against them, many of which were unsportsmanlike and personal fouls. Rex said this:

“I’m proud of the way this team played,” Ryan said in his postgame press conference. “Can we play a lot smarter? Absolutely. But I’ll take a team that’ll fight over a team that will sit back and take it every day of the week and bring on the next team. Give me a team that’s got some fight and will compete to the very end right, wrong or indifferent no matter how good the officiating is or whatever.”

Ryan said that reporters were free to write what they want, but that “the real deal” wasn’t that the Bills are an undisciplined team.

I don't see the personal fouls cleaning up in Buffalo with the coach applauding them....

Here's something else that should be a warning sign to all Bills fans.

Tyrod Taylor is limping around so the Bills new starter is EJ Manuel.

Eeek. Rex is in trouble

I heard MCL strain/sprain this morning, but Ryan isn't definite about him missing any time. I'd be pretty surprised if Taylor lasts the season with as much running as he does. Heartbeat away from Manuel has to scare the Bills hierarchy.

Sammy Watkins to Bills: 'You're making me look bad

Pot and kettle, let me introduce you to Sammy Watkins, the No. 4 overall pick in last year’s draft who is a virtual non-entity on the Buffalo Bills offense this year. Watkins is upset with the Bills for “making me look bad” and told the Buffalo News about it (all quotes via the newspaper):

“I need the ball at least 10 times — I need 10 targets — and l’ll be fine with however many yards I get. And that’s what I addressed in talking with my agent. We reached out to a couple people and tried to pull some string like, ‘Hey, I need my targets. You came up to draft me and I’m not getting targets — that’s a problem.’

“‘You’re making me look bad, and you’re making yourself look bad. Why not make both of us look good?'”

Oh, Samuel, I don’t think you need to worry about the Bills making you look bad; I think you’re doing a fine job of that yourself.

Watkins has seven catches for 99 yards this season. He has the worst catch percentage (catches/targets) on the team, has noticeably worse numbers than Percy Harvin and, oh yeah, he hasn’t played this month because of a recurring calf injury. That’s right: Watkins is complaining about targets he can’t get because he’s not healthy enough to be on the field! That’s like complaining about to your professor about your grade when you haven’t been to class in weeks. It’s a simple concept: You must be on the field to see targets, Sammy.

But that didn’t stop Mr. Watkins, who apparently feels like Rudolph not being allowed to play in any reindeer games. He went to his agent — HIS AGENT! — to whine about this and they tried to “pull some strings.” How? To who? What does this involve? Is that even a thing? I mean, I know Rex Ryan is lax with his attention to offense, but I don’t think that means even he’ll allow the guy taking 10% to come in to tell Greg Roman which plays to call. Though, again, even if he did, WATKINS STILL ISN’T ON THE FIELD ANYWAY.

Before his injury, Watkins was tied for the most targets on the team. But he wants more. (Someone get his agent on the line.)

“For a guy you go up in the draft to take as your No. 1 receiver, you would love those 15 targets that Julio [Jones] gets, those 20 targets that Odell [Beckham Jr.] gets. Of course I’d have 100 yards every game and a TD, if I’m getting 20 targets.”

Right, and if my grandmother had wheels she’d be a tricycle. What’s your point? Heck, even the flawed point is absurd. “Julio” has been targeted 20 times just once this season. His other totals: 11, 15, 6, 10, 10. “Odell” has 8, 12, 9, 12, 11. Again, Watkins was averaging about six before an injury rendered him unable to step on the field. I’m sorry for yelling via italics, but I just can’t stress enough how dumb it it for a guy who can’t find the field to whine about targets he can’t get. Why don’t you see if you can pull some strings with a doctor to get a better hamstring.

(AP)
(AP)

“Everybody looks at you getting zero catches, zero yards, but when you look on film, 90 percent of the time you’re open. I understand that these guys are young and they need some time to trust me. Once we get that trust, it’ll be different.”

No. You’re open 100% of the time because you’ve been standing on the sideline in street clothes. And you know who’s young? YOU. You’re 22 years old, the youngest member of the Bills’ offense. The “young” guys who need to trust you are 26 (Tyrod Taylor), 43 (offensive coordinator Greg Roman) and 52 (Rex Ryan). How about you give them a reason to trust you rather than vice-versa because, frankly, other than some cool sideline catches, you haven’t. In your team’s biggest win (over Indianapolis to start the year) you had three targets and no catches. Your biggest numbers were put up in garbage time against the Patriots. And, once again, you haven’t played since Sept. 27.You cannot trust what you cannot see. And then there’s this not-too-minor point: The Bills are 3-2 with you contributing basically nothing.

(AP)

Sammy Watkins should be a fine receiver in the NFL. He has plenty working against him (his quarterback being a safety-first Tyrod Taylor is No. 2, that injury is No. 1) but complaining in the press isn’t the way this is going to happen. It’s alienating. It’s entitled. It’s just bad form. This isn’t the way Watkins becomes the star he knows he can be or thinks he already is.

“That’s what I get mad at: when I don’t get looked at. I can look at film, and his eyes go straight that way and I’m not getting looked at, at all. That’s when I get frustrated. When I have one-on-one coverage, go to me. I don’t care what’s going on over there. I don’t care if he’s open. When I get one-on-one, just target me.”

Let’s translate this: Forget about the good of the team. Feed my ego when I’m one-on-one because I think I’ll win. That’s more important than hitting an open receiver. Oh, Watkins says this isn’t the case. He says it’s about the betterment of the team and, in a way, it is. The Buffalo Bills will be a better team if Sammy Watkins is involved in the offense, taking away attention from secondary receivers and using his big-play ability to turn around games. But, reading his quotes, it’s clear he’s most interested in the betterment of Sammy Watkins.

I would trade a second or third for him. Him as our deep threat with Decker and Marshall for a few years. Our offense would be solid.
