Out of minicamp, the Jets have signed a fifth QB, Jake Heaps, who had transferred a few times in college. Played for BYU, Kansas, and Miami.
Smith's prospect grade would grade out higher than all of them not named Harvin. Harvin didnt have a definited role coming out of college though and was always going to be a #3 slot WR that played some running back. Smith is 100% Wr but I think Harvin's draft grade would have been higher than Smiths.
Smith grades out higher than Jackson, Cooper, Murphy, and Nelson...Jackson was highly regarded when he came out and I believe the Pats drafted and cut him in no time in rd 2... Smith has more speed and polish to his game than Jackson, IMO.
I'll admit I wasn't crazy about the guy based on what I'd heard/read pre-draft, but hopefully we've added a dimension we haven't had since Santana Moss . . .
I dont think he's as straight line fast as Santana (or Djax). His body build is also that of a #2 WR, not the lean slight frames of classic speedsters like Moss, DJax, or Dorsett (just takeb by Colts). I think he'll be closer to Santonio Holmes or Jeremy Maclin (in terms of how he plays and the speed he plays).
Santonio - 5'11 188 4.38
Maclin - 6'0 198 4.46 40
Smith - 6'0 196 4.42 40
Santana Moss - 5'10 193lbs 4.32
DJax 5'10 175lbs 4.35

maybe they are trying to faze out geno
...or Fitzpatrick isnt as far along as we think..
maybe they are trying to faze out geno
could be also i would rather we faze out geno though
Cimini wrote about the signing, just reading it now, that Fitzpatrick wont be ready for team drills in July and the Jets needed another arm. He believes depending on how heaps performs, he may be gone by August.
Incredible how anyone could think that Heaps' signing is an indication that team is moving on from Geno.
Thankfully Fitzpatrick will hold the fort until Petty is ready and we can have our first turnover machine free season in a long whileJet brothers, Geno is not only our starting QB this year, he's going to have a great season. If not Petty will take over next year.
Go Jets...Cyborg

I heard it's gonna be sunny today with a slight breeze, which would seem to indicate the Jets are moving on from Geno . . .
I think some of you are going to be very disappointed in that Geno will start the season at QB for the Jets. I'm not saying he is a top 20 QB, but he might very well be the best we have at the moment. I also think that the combination of a strong defense and Gailey's success with mediocre QBs will mask some of his deficiencies. Just sayin'
