Roster Adjustments in Need?

As we can see this defensive secondary is weak...

One capable starting corner with one HOF corner who should of retired last year...

One zone cover corner playing out of position who looks to be lost in his own world...

Two strong safeties trying to play over the top coverage in space and getting beat like an old drum...

So what can we do to adjust this roster?

It is time to move Darrelle Revis to free safety, let him use his knowledge and technical ability to read the quarterback's eyes and play in center field utilizing his ball skills to attack the deep passing routes... The best thing Revis brings is his run defense, a form tackler that will bring more of an all around game to the back end of our defense...

Split time Marcus Williams as nickel corner & role player for Revis when he needs a breather at free safety... Williams is good cover corner but he isn't quick enough but he can handle himself against a slower opponent (tight ends, running backs)...

We aren't deep at corner but rookie Juston Burris and second year Daryl Roberts are fast enough to play aggressive against the number two options week to week...

No didn't forget about Buster Skrine depending on opponents he will line up against their number one with Revis over the top that receiver option will be covered...

This will allow Todd Bowles/Kacy Rodgers to play multiple sets of three man safety sets as well as bringing either/or Calvin Pryor and/or Marcus Gilchrist into the box to defend the run... Either one can set the edge or shoot the gap as the blitzer...

Think we need to make one or two trades/roster moves to add another corner on the active roster, if that means cutting Bruce Carter or Josh Martin to do so... Think Antonio Allen can step in two either of their roles to make up for the loss...

Dead-on quote from Caporoso:
"The Jets defensive line remains one of the league’s most overhyped and overrated units. They have been a non factor the past three weeks against a collection of poor to average offensive lines. It has remained foolish to concentrate so many resources on players with nearly identical skill-sets. You are not getting the most out of Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams by having all of them on the roster together. There is too much redundancy and not enough speed off the edge. This is a unit that is talked about as one of the league’s best but is consistently a non-factor."

The unit was downright abusive in week #1 against Cincy with Sheldon suspended, was that a coincidence?

The d-line was neutralized yesterday, shockingly. But I'm not in favor of any type of overhaul here. That's getting a little crazy, IMO. Wilkerson and Wiliams aren't going anywhere. McClendon has been good at times. If anybody should go next year, it's Sheldon. For obvious contract reasons.

Old#15 the play from the d-line is widely ineffective because the secondary is so bad, if they can not shut or even slow down routes then there is no pause by the quarterback to allow our line to push or collapse the pocket... the same adage like yester years our linebacking core is weak, no pressure that is why TB has to send the safeties along with the linebackers to create miscues which are not happening at the moment...

I don't what to say but have to believe this group is not effective (entire defense) because there is no fluidity in coverage... Two strong safeties can not be on the same field at the same time...

Was thinking if TB got really creative kinda how the Rams did with Mark Barron ex-safety now linebacker...

Moving Darrelle Revis to Free Safety and utilizing Marcus Williams as his sub and making Marcus the new nickel gives us more balance in the back-end... Marcus Gilchrist and sub Rontez Miles along side Revis would sure up any problems with the defense on the deep ball...

Calvin Pryor lets be frank, he is a run defender that can play sideline to sideline but he needs to work on his tackling consistency... If we are going to run more of a 4-3 defense then Pryor to one side with Darron Lee on the other gives us speed on the edge... Now the Jets can utilize one of three middle linebackers in many sets to run this front seven...

Yea this means we now get creative with our front four... Have 4 outside linebackers that can lineup as defensive ends, while we have five defensive lineman we can mix and match up front to balance the speed and power... It seems like too much adjusting but this current defense is getting nothing, no pass deflections nor interceptions and like Old#15 said this defensive front is not interrupting the passing attack even tho they are still a top run defense it is not enough...

We do need to mix things up a little but for almost 50 years the jets have not been great tacklers like many of the Giant teams. or NE over the last fifteen years. Until football becomes touch football we need guts that can tackle........
