Count me out on Carpenter. This would mark the 2nd year we pick up Seattle's trash. He has had injury and conditioning problems and if there are no better options, use the high 2nd rounder on a rookie guard.
Last year was also thin at OG in FA. Probably need to draft this position to ensure an adequate LG which has been notably missing on the Jets OLine since Faneca left. That's not a position to mess around with especially with a declining DBrick.
This FA thing is not as easy as it might seem. Idzik found that out last year as he brazenly thought he could sit on a number and wait simply because Decker obliged, due in large part of his wife wanting to be in NY. After that, FA's came and went unsigned. That signing disillusioned him, I believe.
And it seems no one was concerned with this omission of experience with Mike Mccagnan. I read the posts on several forums. Anyone who brought the topic up as a concern was shot down by the masses. But FA is a big deal when you're sitting on a ton of money to be spent by mandate. Mike is not finding it so easy as CB's (Cary Williams this morning) are flying off the shelves as well as safeties, backup QB's and OLinemen. Settling for guys like James Carpenter is alarming to me and I only hope he can get a top-tier CB (among which only 2 remain in Revis and Culliver IMO) and not settle for another leftover in Cro or worse.
I love ya blast, but this is the thing that frustrates me about Jets fans, especially after last years free agency debacle, how can you guys who preach patience still not understand the dynamics of free agency and how it works? Fact of the matter is, setter is right, you don't have till next week in free agency, by next week you will walk into the store and the only thing left on the shelves will be the shit nobody wanted. This (free agency) game is played at WARP SPEED, and if you can't keep up you get steamrolled. Before you even know what hit you, you are stampeded into road-kill. Patience is not a virtue in NFL free agency, its a recipe for disaster. This game requires extreme aggressiveness, decisiveness and speed.I think you are prematurely alarmed. Let's see where we are next week at this time.

BTW... exactly what are "conditioning problems"?
You're right, I may be jumping the gun.
As for "conditioning", I'm merely repeating what seems to be the prevailing term used to describe Carpenter which is unfair in that it's more accurately been a litany of inuries that have derailed him.

You neglected to include the entire quote:
"The only real knock on Carpenter is his durability and conditioning issues. He missed 16 games in his first two seasons due to knee injuries and a concussion. However, he has only missed three games the past two seasons so perhaps he is shedding his fragile label. Carpenter will be a nice fix for a team looking for a big offensive lineman to help protect their quarterback and create holes for the running back."
or:
"Carpenter's price tag. The Seahawks declined the fifth-year option on left guard James Carpenter's rookie contract last offseason, which means he's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next month. He's had some well-documented durability (and conditioning) issues since he was chosen in the first round in 2011, especially during his first two seasons when he missed a combine 16 games because of knee injuries and a concussion. He's been good when healthy, though, and while he missed three games in November with an ankle sprain, those were the only three he's missed over the last two seasons. He's a player that Seattle will be interested in bringing back at the right price, but what is that price? Clayton said he anticipates Carpenter wanting $4 million a season and Seattle being willing to pay him $3 million at the most. "There's a number there that I think can be worked out," Clayton said. "It depends if he thinks he can get a little bit more in free agency and where he stands as far as coming back."
Doesn't sound so bad to me.
