No he isn’t but I wish he was. I amount of money he is about to come into, I’d sure like to borrow a dollar or two! I just want the Jets to draft a bigger sized #1 WR that can possible give us Julio Jones, Mike Evans or Deandre Hopkins type numbers. Yes I know receivers like that don’t grow on trees and come along once in a blue moon. I could be wrong but I think K’Neal Harry can be that for us.
I'm going to ask a very provocative question - do you need any of those to win a Super Bowl in today's game? Julio has been to one and should have won. The other guys have never been close. I think you need a good number 1, but you don't need a elite player necessarily. Not saying I wouldn't want an elite WR, just suggesting that you can win a SB without one. Getting a talented receiving corps at all positions seems to be formula that works these days.
I agree with this but there is one thing you mention that we don’t have and that is a #1 WR. Elite or not, do you think any of the guys (Enunwa or Anderson) we currently have are #1 guys? I don’t! They are very good #3 to decent #2 guys but not a #1 by no means. So drafting a #1 WR will help Darnold and this offense greatly. Also, not having an elite #1 WR probably isn’t necessary but that all depends on the team and QB your talking about. Teams like the Patriots, Saints, Packers and Steelers don’t need that. You can even include the Seahawks but look at the QBs for those teams. Darnold isn’t that type of QB, YET! Hopefully he will be but he ain’t there yet.
You can win with several #2 and #3’s. Take the SB Champion Patriots. Edelman, Hogan, Dorsett, Ellington, Berrios, and Harris. Edelman is basically an elite slot receiver. After the Josh Gordon experiment blew up, they were left with Gronk, Edelman, and Hogan.
It’s nice having a Julio Jones, no doubt. But not totally necessary.
no matter who the patriots stick at receiver, they never drop a pass and they always have a zillion yacs. if someone drops a pass, like welker in the Super Bowl they are sent packing, no matter how many other amazing catches and runs they have had. then a replacement is created who is just as good or better. just like offensive lineman on the patriots. ask for money, allow a sack(actually no one has ever done that), get canned, get replaced with a better version. you think brady is the greatest. wait until you see the new QB belichick creates if brady ever retires
Think of who your talking about here? Who are you using as a comparison? The Patriots, the freakin Patriots! We’re talking about the greatest QB and HC of all time. I don’t care if they cheated or not, they still won! Brady and Belibitch were build in a lab and I’m FULLY convinced of that. Not for their body builds obviously but for their brains and longevity for success. They have been together for for 19 years and it doesn’t matter what offensive players you give them they will find away to make it happen. That has never happen in the NFL (to my knowledge) and probably never will again. That’s why it doesn’t matter what receivers they have, we are talking about Brady and Belicheap here!
Note: Not to mention the fact that their offensive line is always sacked and they seem to get ever call possible going their way. I guess that’s apart of their cheating also!
Not to mention, I'll take gronk, Edelman , and Hogan, any day as long as they never drop a single pass and go for 20+ yac like they do on the patriotsI

I actually think we can run with what we have today, if Quincy is healthy. Anderson is a solid #2. Crowder is very good slot. Herndon, in my opinion is an emerging star at TE. And Quincy is a solid possession type #2. I would love to add another receiver that could be a true #1 - particularly a big target that we could use in the red zone But I don't believe this is significant weakness on the roster. I would argue it is probably one of the deeper positions now that we added Crowder to the mix.
If a player falls to us, great, take him. But if we're talking about the draft - I would say focus on OLB/EDGE, O-Line, CB. Fill those spots and anything else is a bonus.

I agree with the gist of your entire post, but I particularly liked this observation.
First because it's true, and second because it feels extra gratifying when you steal a player like Herndon in the 4th round.

And it's not just scheme. Some guys just block better, or catch better, or run better. It's infuriating.
