FLORHAM PARK- It's been an up-and-down first week at Jets training camp for Ryan Fitzpatrick, as the quarterback continues to knock off the rust after skipping OTAs and minicamp.

At times, he'll give a glimpse into the bag of tricks that is Fitz-Magic, followed by a play or two that make one wonder why New York gave him $12 million to return.

Sunday, though, things were different. In what may be the first sign the rust is gone, absent one interception, Fitzpatrick was lights-out. The highlight? A play that may put to rest the stigma that Fitzpatrick has no arm strength.

In one of the first 11-on-11 drills, Fitzpatrick dropped back and heaved a marvelous ball deep down the field for a long touchdown to Eric Decker. The ball traveled, no joke, roughly 60-62 yards in the air. After practice, Decker said he's been impressed with Fitzpatrick.

"I think he's looked really good, to be honest with you," Decker said. "He's definitely throwing it like he was last year. I'm just impressed. It doesn't feel like we've missed any time from him being gone this offseason, which is nice. I'm excited about what this training camp is going to do for us."

While Fitzpatrick stole the show, he wasn't the only player to stand out. Watch the video above for the three stars from Jets Camp, Day 4.

Note: The Jets will have off Monday before returning to practice Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Not really sure where Hughes has been, but after a terrible rusty performance on the first day, Fitz has been playing pretty well in practice. Here's a few quotes from some other scribes on Fitz's performance yesterday.

Remarkably this is also from Hughes.

What went right?

A lot. Fitzpatrick had a couple of nice back shoulder throws for Kenbrell Thompkins in a team period. Fitzpatrick started 8 of 8 in team periods action, before his first incomplete pass. Fitzpatrick threw a beauty of a sideline ball to Jalin Marshall, putting it right where it need to be, over the coverage.

Quarterbacks:

Ryan Fitzpatrick – If Fitz had any rust coming into camp after his lengthy contract dispute, it is all gone. He was decisive, accurate, and efficient with the ball. The chemistry he has with Decker and Marshall is remarkable, and it seems like that same chemistry has been formed with Enunwa. During the 7-on-7 and team drills, Fitz completed a number of timing patterns with those three targets for large chunks of yardage. He also used Bilal Powell frequently and effectively over the middle and out in the flat. I know it is only the 3rd practice, but hopefully it is an indication of things to come. If he can duplicate his 2015 performance, this team will make the playoffs.

Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't perfect at today's two-toned practice — a session that started outdoors, then moved inside early on when the North Jersey skies opened up.
But after Wednesday night's arrival off signing his new contract, Thursday's decent outing, Friday's near flawless passing day, and today's third practice of training camp, he just gives that sense that he's right where he needs to be.
"Somewhere around halfway through the first practice, I started feeling a lot better, seeing things a lot better, the ball was coming off my hand better," Fitzpatrick told reporters against the end zone wall of the Atlantic Health Training Center fieldhouse. "Today we did some red zone stuff where I was a little bit slow on some of my throws and just not as crisp as I wanted to be, and so I think it was apparent there that I had a long way to go.
"But I felt good the first two days, my arm feels good, the rapport with the guys is still there. So we've just got to continue to have that upward trend."

Offensive POD: While the long explosive play from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Brandon Marshall was exciting, let’s go with the first unit’s final play of Saturday’s session. With the offense at the one-yard line and just a second or two on the clock, Chan Gailey got Marshall free for a short score. While the Jets finished third in red zone efficiency last season (66.0 TD%), they truly believe there is room for improvement in that area. And everything about Camp Bowles 2.0 revolves around finishing.

Of course i haven't seen any Practices, but judging from the tweets, and some comments from the scribes, it seems like Fitz is doing very well for a guy who hasn't thrown a pass in 7 months. On the other hand Petty seems like he might be playing himself out of a roster spot. That would be a shame, the kid has talent, and opportunity.
