Ryan Ramczyk, Wisconsin Left Tackle to Enter 2017 Draft

Everyone knows our offensive line isn't as bad as it was stated towards the end of the season... James Carpenter under contract for the next two seasons for a moderate salary ($6.8 M both years)... We may have found our right tackle in Brandon Shell and in doing so we may found a replacement for Brian Winters who could be leaving via free agency in Brent Qvale... Dakota Dozier also another option at guard played well down the home stretch of the season splitting time with Qvale...

There is some debate can Nick Mangold who has been slowing deteriorating with amounting injuries in the last two seasons will be capable of returning for another season... Mangold looks like a candidate to be a cap casualty this off season... But on a brighter note we may found a bridge guy in Wesley Johnson who started out when we claimed him as a right tackle then guard now he is a capable option at center...

Ryan Clady albeit was an affordable option but from an outside outlook he was overall a risky option just because of his injured past... After ending up on injured reserve yet again, he is also a cap casualty as the team would be retarded to accept his $10 M team option for next season... With that saying this is the only position that needs to be solved this year either in free agency and/or draft...

The best left tackle in this draft is the athletic big man from Wisconsin in Ryan Ramczyk... Yes he is likely to have surgery but the recovery and body of work he is become shows he can be a franchise piece for any team, so why not us? Here is a quick scouting report on this top tier prospect:

STRENGTHS:

• Terrific initial quickness.
• Explosive first step.
• Good power and pad level.
• Impressive balance, agility and patience in pass protection.
• Fluid footwork: kick slide is natural.
• Exceptional light feet and bent knees.
• Outstanding coordination between upper/lower body.
• Excellent hand technique.
• Discipline.
• Powerful shove.
• High Football IQ.

WEAKNESSES:

• Inexperienced. (2016 was his only FBS level competition)

Now I don't think or should the team be smart drafting this kid is one move but not the only move as I stated plenty of times no matter who they draft they should have a bridge guy to allow the prospect to ease into this level... One unrestricted free agent is David Quessenberry just because of his ties to Mike Maccagnan and Houston... Quessenberry could be that bridge guy and give ample depth after Ramczyk takes over...

The options are available for us to improve...

he is worth the 6th overall pick but I fear one of the top 5 teams in front of us may take him...
he is literally the best blindside tackle in this draft with the most upside as well...

The Jets definitely need to start with a stud OL if they can. Otherwise get Fournette, Cook or Williams.

No not even close to a top 10 pick.... He is a very good tackle so like a QB in a weak class he'll go higher than he should but he is a late 1st rd pick.... If we can trade back and acquire him or Cam Robinson that would be ideal but the reality is they will both go 5-15 slots higher than they should.... Robinson is 10-20 pick in rd 1 and Ramcyzk around 20-30

I'm no scout, but from the two games I watched him he looked very good in both pass protection and run game. He clearly has the athleticism and body for the blindside, and from what I read others are in agreement that he is top 10 material. The only drawback is the lack of experience. Curious as to why you think otherwise.

Don't get me wrong I like the kid, his size and his talent, his athleticism is top 10 for sure ... but unlike a guy like Brick... His resume is very short. He had some great game this year, no doubt. A few times this year I have seen guys get across his face quickly and he was lucky to have inside help or the QB release the ball quickly or he his poor footwork on those plays would have been on spotlight... But like I said in a weak T draft he'll go higher than he should.. Think Mark Sanchez... A lot to like in the short resume, heck i was all for trading up for him, but without the seasoning he is a project. We can't take a project at 6 for several reasons but 2 quick ones are we need someone that will play LT now... Ramczyk can probably play RT as a rookie and then slide over not what we need and we haven't had a coaching staff to develop young guys with talent on the OL in forever.... So many OL picks over the last few years and only Winters panning out...

Cleveland, SF, Chicago and Tenn have other pressing needs than OL. Jacksonville on the other hand would possible take a LT. However if Jonathan Allen is available I think they would jump on him. I think besides QB a LT is the number one need for the Jets followed closely by CB and and edge rusher.. I think the Combine will tell if Ramczk breaks the top 10.

If the team was built to compete in 2017, then by all means take the guy ready to play now. But with a longer build, I'd rather get the guy with the higher upside.

I agree with this 100%. On a related note, I gotta believe that Gailey's passing scheme employed an awful lot of empty sets which put an awful lot of pressure on the OL. Perhaps the new guy will protect both OL and ultimately the QB better.
