Sam Darnold- USC QB

This is the obvious choice many have us pegged to land at the top of round one over all in 2018. I feel he should have his own thread.

The kid has all sorts of talent. Arm strength, vision, pocket awareness, mobility and most of all an NFL Brain that many do not possess. He dissects defenses and is extremely quick to process information.

The Jets will be a highly attractive spot for any Head coach:

1st overall pick- Franchise QB.
* Loaded Salary cap space
*Boat load of picks

Perfect storm to develop a young QB like Sam.

If we have the first pick, he'll stay for his senior year, a la Peyton Manning, and become a star the following year for another team. If he comes out and we take him, he'll be like all the other USC QB's in the past 20 years.

Holy shit, I'm a downer.

Feel the same way. Not positive, but Rosen may also be able to stay in college another year.

As of this particular moment, I have no problem calling Josh Rosem our pick, political purseuasions and all...

i could not care less about someone's political views. This is football and this is the USA. I would not ask my surgeon , pilot, etc. his views. Having said that, can you imagine the uproar if Rosen did appear to be the best choice and Woody told the GM not to pick him? On another note, Rosen made some bad decisions today. On the plus side, he owned up to them and said that he cost UCLA the game. Still very, very early in the evaluation process.

if the jets end up with the pick of the litter, we will never find out if johnson blackballed rosen..

I couldnt care less about his political views BUT.......

The New York media would have a field day harping on this guy. Front page nonesense...creating garbage distractions that could hinder him concentrating on his playing career.
My question if the Jets do select him: Do they think he has the mental fortitude to overcome this demonized section of reporting in New York city?

Darnold is pretty raw still. Makes a lot of mistakes.

I watched Sam the last two games and he does make some mistakes but he does make some awfully impressive throws all over the field (some of them were bad drops by his receivers). I like his poise in the pocket and his decisiveness on his throws. I've also watched Rosen and he's a bit of a gunslinger throwing it everywhere. He got extremely lucky on his big comeback game but he does have an arm and likes to use it. For my money so far it's Sam first. Hopefully he doesn't do a Manning on us..

I'm shocked at how little Baker Mayfield discussion there is in this thread??????????

There is no way we should waste a possible #1 draft pick on an undersized QB. No matter what amount of heart and confidence you have, you will still have to have physical size to play QB. I know other mini QB's have been successful, but its definitely not the norm and if it comes down to a 6'5 QB vs a 5'11 QB with similar skill sets I will take the taller one every time.

Why?? Its a thread about Sam Darnold.

Because whether you like it or not, he is very much a part of the conversation. He could win the Heisman this year? He's going to have very lofty numbers as well and he'll probably be selected in the 1st round.

Everyone else discusses what Rosen is doing in a Darnold thread.

Heisman winner is not a reason to pick a QB and actually is a reason not to pick one. He is not worth the top pick overall. I want a prototypical QB.

He is actually being called the best prospect since luck, and being compared to luck

I'm assuming you are talking about Darnold right? This thread has gotten alittle thrown off and confusing with the other QBs being talked about.

My point is his numbers are very much comparable to any of the top QB's that will be entering the draft and therefore I am surprised he is not being compared/contrasted/card stacked against Darnold, Rosen, Allen, etc. I am sure he'll be in the conversation to at least be taken in the 1st round? If not top 10? He has great numbers on a top notch collegiate team that plays the best competition in the nation....

Lots of QB's have had great numbers in college vs top notch competition, but if given the choice I will take my chance with 6'4" over maybe 6'1" any day.
