What makes things worse for us is that for the past 15 years and counting we enter each season knowing that at best we are a wild card. Blame it on 11 cheaters cheating or blame it on the Jets. It doesn't matter why but its freaking killing me

Lol, being a Jets fan can be VERY RUFF. Feels like a signature to damn death but all is not lost and hang in there my man. I mean we could be the Browns, Eagles or Vikings or Bills. Imagine how they must feel. I don't think the Browns have ever won a championship and if they have, it was around the same time we did and look at them now. I know the Bills, Eagles and Vikings havent and have lost multiple SBs. So all is not lost as bad as it is, all is not lost.

Lions? Cardinals? And those are long-standing teams. San Diego doesn't have any SB's, despite being an old AFL team like the Jets. They've made it, but not won it. Same with Cinci, Houston/Tennessee.

Some of the newer teams, as well, haven't had that level of success, though they haven't had to wait as long.

The point is, that's a pretty lengthy list. The NFL is a league that has seen a small handful of franchises winning a large chunk of Super Bowls. The Jets are very much not alone, despite what some Jets fans want to believe.

I think this SOJ modo sticks because of the media market they play in, the loyal but VERY DEMANDING fan base they have and the fact they're playing second fiddle to the Giants. Adding insult to injury is the fact it seems like they have been playing second fiddle since they left Shea and moved into the Meadowlands (Giants fucking stadium).

Combine all that with the fact the Giants have won 4 SBs in the past 30 years and hence, the Jets get the SOJ stigma. Hard to beat that but it is what it is for now. Hopefully Mac and Bowles gets this team past all that with a SB victory real soon. Their headed in the right direction so BELIEVE Jets faithful and we shall see. J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets

Guys, I do agree that misery enjoys company but unless its the cheatos sharing our misery then its not comforting to me. I don't care about those other teams who have stunk as bad as us.

Here are 2 examples from this season of Same old Jets to me :
1. After we lost the first cheater game. A game that we led midway through the 4th qtr, and should have won by the way, we went on a 4 out of 5 game losing streak and the 1 win was Jacksonville. Who didn't know that would happen? I actually questioned on the old site after the cheater game if anyone would be surprised if we didn't win again. We did recover but 4 out of 5 ruined our season. SOJ

2. Going into the final game, I could see no way we could lose it. I had to stop myself from picturing winning that game , our first playoff game and ending up in cheaterland for the grudge match. Even though I could come up with no way we could lose to Buffalo, I still knew we would find a way to lose and we did. SOJ. Truth is , we were never in either one of those Rex games. Did that really surprise anyone?

While I'm rambling, let's look at the best of the Jets through the years since the Superbowl. Let's take a look by the decade since we only really had 1 highlight per decade

The70's
The mudbowl. Do I need to remind anyone. Don't shuls and the dolphins were our nemisis in the 70's. They beat us twice this year and then they beat us for the 3rd time in a season in a very ugly AFC championship game with no tarp on the field and torrential rain.

The 80's

This decade we are again terrorized by Miami. This time with Dan Marino. Our highlight of this decade includes a drubbing by the dolphins.
The sack exchange. We start out the season 10-1, going into the Monday night matchup against, you know who, the dolphins. I'm telling everyone I know and even people I don't know, that the jets are going to the Superbowl this year.
What happens? Miami kicks our ass on national TV. I now tell everyone that the jets will not win again. Paul Maguire, remember him?, tells everyone the same thing. I hated Maguire, but guess what, he and I were right. The jets lost the last 5 games
By some miracle, we still made the playoffs and beat the Browns. For 58 minutes that is. We lost the last 2 minutes blowing a 10 point lead.

The 90's
Ah the 90's. Our savior arrives! Bill Parcels becomes the Jets coach and by shafting the cheaters as a bonus. Of course, the cheaters aren't the cheaters yet. The greatest coach ever is now our coach. This was the happiest time of my football life. Parcels is are coach. We are winning the Superbowl!
Or not. We are the best team we have ever been. Bill brings in all the right players. We go to the AFC championship game against the broncos. We are shutting them out in the 3rd qtr. With tears of joy in my eyes, I accept what is clear. We are going to the Superbowl in my lifetime!
No sooner thought then done. We start fumbling, and belichicks defense is totally picked apart by shanahans offense. Shanahan was his nemisis. So we lose. But that's OK because next year will be our year clearly!
So what happens next season game 1. Vinny goes down against the freaking cheaters, who still aren't the cheaters yet. We lose chrebet

Same OL' Jets had no application to the 2015 Jets. 10-6 with a 6 game turnaround.

It's mindboggling, and yet typical at the same time, that people within our fanbase and media have resorted to this moniker.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that a lot of Jets' fans, from their arm chairs, tend to jump to conclusions, like Mangenious, the Sanchise, Rexalicious, ect. Appoint unproven players , and coaches, the second coming, with out any real basis , then three years later when reality hits turn on them with hatred and venom for unfulfilled promise the fans put on them. . :)

Geez. my darn tablet died. I know everyone wants to hear how this story turns out so Im at the computer now.

90's continued
We lose Chrebet too but no matter what our superbowl dreams have just gone up in smoke. The really hot fire with the blue flame kind of smoke. I still believe if we had gotten over the shock and disapointment of losing Vinny quicker, and had we gone to Ray Lucas immediately before trying Mirer, that we still would have won the superbowl.
This is still ok because we still have the greatest coach ever right? It would have been except for the fact that Leon Hess decided to die before the next season which prompted Parcells to leave and the whole cheaterchick thing and the end of the world for us Jet fan. blah blah, you all know that story.

cheaterchick, who was belichick at the time, totally shafts the Jets and goes to the team that will soon be known as the cheaters. He brings a good amount of our coaching staff with him. For 1 year he stinks but then Al Groh leaves us and the sherminator shows up and dismantles everything that Parcells built. We lose a dozen players to the cheaters who go their to help teach the Parcellian way. Belichick, soon to become cheaterchick, takes our former Jets and combines them with the guys left from Parcells on the patriots, sprinkles in a little cheato crumbs, and the evil empire is born.
I think if the world was ever going to end, this would have been a good time for it to happen. But alas, time goes on.

The 2000's
Ok , I'm sure everyone knows this decade but I'll give a quick recap.
Rex takes us to 2 AFC championship games back to back. Sadly , this has to be our biggest highlight since the 69 superbowl. Although I never felt we were good enough to go to or win the Superbowl these 2 times like I did when Parcells was here, we still got close twice in a decade for the first time ever. along the way , we knocked the cheatahs out of the playoffs on their homefield(maybe my favorite game ever). We got the term Can't Wait and Can't stop a nosebleed. We flew like Jets and did backflips on the cheaters field. It was a great time but the end of another decade with no superbowl and the beginning of the end for Rex

The 2010's
Well, they started out pretty bad. This year inspires hope, but looking at our history there is nothing to give us confidence that we will suddenly rid ourselves of that Same Ol Jets mantra. We can only hope. I'm a pessimist because of this team, but I say we try the optimistic approach and see where it gets us

Rant over

I think the Same Ole Jets is completely accurate. WHY does everyone say that, is the question you have to ask yourself. They say that, and it would never have even come up if it weren't for this event, LOSING the last game of the season. People, fans, onlookers, NFL talking heads all had the Jets in the playoffs. The support was seemingly so common that I was surprised. Overwhelming audiences are not normally so pro Jets. But in this case they were. NOBODY in the media that I saw at least thought beating Buffalo was a challenge. They acted as though it was some sort of formality and not a real live game.

The Jets were hot and riding a 5 game winning streak. The Bills were a joke.

And then the Jets very inexplicably LOST to an inferior team. It makes no sense. Makes no sense at all. So a lot of those people who are saying Same Ole Jets were shocked by them losing a game they had counted on them winning. Throughout the Jets history they have done that to people. They are at least partially angry/upset. This team tends to do that to you.

But here's the silver lining......

ALL they have to do is start following through with what every football indicator says in regards to them. Start beating winning teams consistently. Our HC must get better at motivating players and strategizing. Mac continues to do his part and brings in a consistent influx of young talent. There's really not much to it and this organization has been a failure at it for way too long now.

This is pretty much it.

There are other teams that have the same heartbreaking history, or worse. What most of them don't have is the whiny fan base the Jets have - Philly being the exception, as their fans are even worse than Jets fans.

That's what makes the game fun. Every season, doesn't mater if the Jets are 4-12, or 12-4, I come into the season full of hope that "this is the Year".

When they give hope that it actually might be, then lose in the fashion they did, twice to their ex-coach, yeah it's a real disappointing season, and I'm pissed off.

Takes about a week or two then the cycle begins again. When it stops being passionate, and fun, i'll find something else to get crazy about

You almost get the sense that some of the Joe Beningo types out there go crazy in bashing the team so they can jump to the front of the line about being a "long suffering" Jets fan.

So today, January 12th, is the 47th anniversary of our only day to the pinnacle. Good thing we won. At least we have something over the Bills and Viks as 4 time losers. I'm one of those fans at this point in my life it's SuperBowl or bust. Don't have that many years left in me.

It will be 47 years on Tuesday since the Jets last made the SuperBowl. If you have had to endure almost a half a century of not making it to the big show then you earned a right to express disappointment. All SOJ means to me is yet another year without a championship.

BTW - we absolutely don't own the franchise on Same Old insert team. Many other cities feel the pain every year and at least we've had some success in the playoffs. So I guess there are worse situations. The Cinci and Minn loses were absolutely brutal.

This is ALWAYS worse than SOJ. Take it for what it's worth.
