Sauce not starting week 1 would be a big deal. You don’t draft a guy #4 overall to provide depth. This guy has to earn the position, but watching him play football at Cincinnati, I don’t have one doubt in my mind that he‘ll be starting against the Ravens. I could see Bryce Hall push DJ Reed for #2, but I still think Reed wins that battle. It’s a good problem to have. CB depth, that is.

the point is just because you are drafted does not mean you are handed the job and if that is what you expect as a fan then you really do not care about competition in house to develop all the flaws most of these guys have.

I don't want to hand anyone a job, I want them to earn and take it. 1 out of 8 first rounders succeed in the NFL we draft 3 what is the chance any of them make it. Handing them the keys does not guarantee them to last.

What would be the bigger news No. 4 Overall Bust, or still developing and earning snaps?

Because I am tired of seeing the Bust label on all our draft picks especially all the first rounders, year after year.

I don’t disagree about competition. Everyone has to earn their spot. I was just saying I believe Sauce wins that spot hands down. It would be shocking if he didn’t. The guy dominated in college and has no flaws in his game. If that doesn’t translate to the NFL right now, then there’s a lot of very dumb people projecting players in the pre draft process.

listen he has been working hard, but if he is not ready thrusting him in then that is bad coaching.

college to nfl there is a transition period, right now we are at the beginning stages.

if he is not ready day one, not the end of the world. we have to look at the long term potential.

we hope that when the season starts he is named starter, but not the end of the world if he is not.

and when the fuck has anyone here listened to the outside bullshit from those so called draft experts?

The draft experts get them wrong sometimes. But I didn’t see one so-called expert say anything other than this guy’s an absolute stud of a CB. A #1 was almost universally agreed upon.

I could actually see Jermaine Johnson have a transition period more so than Sauce. JJ went from lost in the shuffle at Georgia to one really productive year at FSU. That would be more probable to me.

Do you know when I realized that Gholston was a huge bust? At the same time as the coaching staff...on the third play of his first practice. I think they'll know pretty early what they have with Sauce.

Saying that he has to snatch it away from Hall is an exaggeration. Sauce will have to earn it but it's not Hall's job to lose. And yse, I'd be shocked if Sauce isn't starting week 1. ...same with Wilson. Johnson will probably be in a rotation.

One thing I do know is he will give up multiple TD's in the NFL. He's not playing the trash he made his name against in college. I hope he is the next Revis, but I expect him to get exposed early.

I believe Sauce and Hall should and will be the starting two corners and Reed will be the slot guy. Having two big CBs that are excellent on the outside is hard to deal with. Hall played very well last year IMO! He was the primary CB with a ton of pressure on him. He didn’t have much help on the other side, as all our CBs, including him were VERY YOUNG last year.

Sauce has the ability and mentality to be an all time great CB from what I’ve seen. Him earning the starting spot shouldn’t be a problem at all and he should have to earn it. Reed is an excellent CB and hopefully he can make that transition to the slot. Either way, we have three excellent starting CBs that will start and finish the game together. No matter who plays where.

What team nowadays doesn’t use three cornerbacks starting and playing primarily the entire game, with the way teams throw the ball 35-50 times a game with 3-5 WR sets. Including the Jets!

BTW, this is not news. It's something that Saleh said on his press conference the day prior.

I'm still amazed that he didn't give up a TD in 3 collegiate seasons. (1000 snaps?)
Sure he'll get "Moss'd", but more will get "Sauce'd"!

This can become an issue if he doesn't start the first game.
We'll start hearing the SOJ bull crap about the organization doesn't know what it is doing, especially since the local cruds in the blue unis drafted two plug and play people in the first round, picking just after the Jets.
It will be :
1) they don't know how to evaluate talent, or
2) the drafted a very talented player and they can't coach him up to be NFL ready.

I hope this was just something said to push Sauce to not be cocky or complacent.

Why would it be a big deal if he doesn’t ? If we deploy 3 CBs and Sauce is one of them why does it matter if he’s 1 or 3

He doesn’t have to be #1 but he needs to be out there week one contributing in the secondary. If you get beat out by Brandon Echols and Javelin Guidry, it’s time to start looking in the mirror.

Guidry with his speed might be a good spy for LaMar in that 1st game . When I say 3, Echols and Guidry were not in consideration. One of em might not even make the 53

My top four CB’s are Sauce, DJ Reed, Bryce Hall, and Michael Carter II. Echols probably sticks after some flashes of good play in 2021. Everybody else better ramp it up because the CB spots are almost full.

i think in the same presser Saleh said what he did about Sauce taking it away from Hall, he slipped up and tipped his hand a bit. He essentially said what you did... Hall and Sauce on the outside.

not that Reed should be taken lightly as a candidate for the outside... his stats are right up there with EVERYONE!

But i also see them on the outside and Reed taking MC2's place.
