At this point exactly what is being gained by continuing to start McCown?

Its Fitz all over again, you know he's gone after this year, but Bowles refuses to groom a young quarterback.

Two years utterly wasted on one year veteran rentals.

At this point I agree with you because I see us not being able to win out. We might as well see the young guys out there, see if there's any hope or not. Petty looked okay during preseason. These kids can't develop if they don't play.

As was the case last season, Toilet only started understudy when the Jets were officially, mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Apparently, the Jets can still make the playoffs and therefore Toilet will start the guy that gives the team the best chance at victory. Everyone in this thread is looking at the bigger picture when they say start Petty. We already know this team doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs, so why not start someone else?

Well, that's not the way toilet thinks. He refuses to look or even acknowledge the bigger picture.

Now, I didn't say I agree with this line of thinking. I just think that's how our HC operates?

The way I look at it is Mac and Bowles drafted two QB's. Neither of them are able to beat out a career stiff. To me that means, both should be fired at end of season no matter what happens. When you pick 2 QB's and whiff on both that means you suck as talent evaluators or if they can't be developed then that means they suck as a coaching staff. At this point, I hope they go 4-12 in humiliating fashion that only the New Jersey Browns can do.

Yeah, isn't it amazing how many times the Jets have struck out at QB selection? Last night as I watched the 2nd half of Packers-Steelers I was amazed at how good Rodgers' replacement is. Yet we can't seem to lay our hands on a good QB. Don't get it.

Hundley has been sitting on the bench for three years absorbing the system, and up to last night's game he has been pretty mediocre at best. I'm not sure I would be anointing him as the next best thing. If it was a breakout game for him, it shows that development in some QBs takes a lot of time in some cases.

It also shows that you can't tell what you've got without playing them for several games. Yes you have to buy a ticket to win the lottery but you also have to check the ticket.

Honestly, I wasnt impressed with Hudley. He looked better than he did all season but when it mattered the most he couldnt get any completions to move the chains

Well I'm not saying he's the next Rodgers or Rothlesberger. But I do think he looked a lot better than what the Jets have managed to pick up over the last many years, perhaps even since Testaverde. At least I think he showed the potential to develop into a solid starter.

I'm not saying he looked to be one of the greats. Just looked pretty solid to me. Based on what I saw, I would expect continued improvement. Can't say I have seen that in any of the Jet QB's over the last several years. In fact, perhaps Sanchez was the best, if you can believe that.

Agreed. What a sad group of QBs we've had this past decade. It's clear to everyone that QB is by far the most important position on this team. Why haven't the GMs done whatever it takes to get one?

Farve????

Definitely a good one. But a retread, really. As I was watching Packers-Steelers what had me amazed was the fact that I was watching a new guy. And one that followed Rodgers, who followed Farve himself. Clearly, the Packers have had good teams over the years. So how come they were able to draft a good new QB? Same thing with the Pats. And why haven't the Jets with their poor records been able to draft a good QB? There was Namath, O'Brien, and maybe Todd. Why can other teams' coaching staffs do such a good job of drafting QB's, but the Jets can't?

The only thing I can think of is that we haven't had any good GM's for a long, long time.
