Shefty tweet Bridgewater to Saints

careful expression "involving draft picks" - wonder whether that means

- conditional picks?

- possibility that Saints send a pick to us and we send a lesser pick back?

yeah. reported 3rd rounder per WFAN. I'm a little sad for us and for him. I was for waiting for a team held hostage by an injured starting QB. and for Teddy who seems like a good kid, hoped he'd get to go somewhere he could play.

can't say I'm a fan of this

this will most likely be closer to a 4th round pick. Bart Scott and I are sad about this

Not sure why the rush. Waiting could only add to the compensation not hurt it

This could really be like not getting anything. Could have held out and how much worse could it have been?

surprised the saints were the team and that's the best they could get. obviously NO considers itself a contender and wants legit insurance in case of brees injury. but other teams who also deem themselves contenders have questions on their starters and a possible clearer path for bridgewater to start. now he needs an injury to a hall of famer to play.

Lets also remember he has 28 TD's and 22INT's. Thats nothing more than average and being a bus driver. I think people over rated him. Yes he is better than anything the Jets have had, but he was never great before the injury. I wished for a 1st rounder, but he was the last pick in the 1st round of draft a few years ago and coming off a career threatening injury.

When you look at what the going rate is for good players, I’m actually not surprised by this compensation. A lot of internet sports experts were predicting a 4th for Bridgewater.

Teddy was on a one year deal, and unless Darnold gets hurt, probably wouldn’t see the field anyway. It’s decent compensation.

They obviously took the bird in hand. It's like getting a free agent comp pick in the late third. I would have waited. Regardless of Teddy's stats he was a pro bowler and a rising star that was thwarted by an injury (that's appears to now not be an issue). A QB always gets hurt and we could have got at least a 2nd for him. Too late now.

so we got a late 3 & 5 million off the books for a young man that had no future here.. sure, they could have pushed their luck & hung on to bridgewater until right before the trade deadline.. i would have been OK with that.. but i'm OK with this as well..

i don't think new orleans is a bad spot for bridgewater at all, BTW.. quite the opposite.. very stable organization that believes in the pass game & brees is 39..

what's the downside??

FWIW, the vast majority of high profile sports reporters are praising Maccagnan for this trade. Rapoport, Wessling, Garofolo, Silver, La Canfora, Brandt....

i guess the flip side is how long do you hold a roster spot while waiting for a QB to get hurt and a team then turning to the jets and willing to give up more than the 3rd they go from the saints? add in a team would need to be able to absorb his guaranteed contract.

i too was surprised at the timing, team traded to, and compensation, but it's not as clear cut that you can just hold the roster spot and wait out an injury to a QB on a team that then will pay up (trade comp and salary) for bridgewater.

5 million off the books for this year doesn't really help anything does it? Now it's just been reported that we also have them a 6th rounder too. I would have waited and rolled the dice
