Short list of most likely picks for the Jets at #6

Assuming the overwhelming consensus of Garrett and Solomon at 1 & 2 is correct.

That leaves three teams ahead of us:

Bears
Jaguars
Titans

Below is my short list that they, then us, will likely choose from:

TE OJ Howard
CB Marshon Lattimore
RB Leonard Fournette
DL Jonathan Allen
ER Derek Barnett
S Jamal Adams
S Malik Hooker

Or if the Jets love one of the QB's, Trubisky or Watson, its possible either one can be the pick.

You really think Watson and/or Trubisky will go that high? I get the list above. I can certainly see that. The more I read these days we'd be lucky to have OJ Howard available at 6? But the QB's I've seen going as late as 25, 26?

I guess the better question is Ham, would YOU take Trubisky or Watson at 6? Kizer maybe a little later? I would think if Mac was truly enamored with any of the QB's, he could trade down and still get one?

For me, I would take Deshaun Watson. I think he's a very intelligent kid with a real head for pocket passing? Call me crazy, but in my heart of hearts I truly believe that Watson could be the next Steve McNair..........

For me as it relates to the jets at #6, its a shorter list in this order: Adams, Howard, Barnett and Hooker. I don't like the idea of a RB at 6, Lattimore's injury issues and Allen's value redundancy are all turn-offs for me. If all 4 are available, the pick really depends on how MM and CS view Hackenberg. If he is the guy long term, they should build around him with guys who can step in and start right away and be impactful. Howard fits that to a tee. You may argue that Fournette does that as well, or that we can get a really good TE later on, and those would be decent arguments. However, Howard is pretty much as sure a thing outside of Garrett as there is in this draft. In addition to his outstanding ability in the passing game, he is also a very blocker so he doesn't need to come off the field. Njoku is another TE who fits this bill, but I wouldn't take him at 6. If we trade down to say 11-15, maybe I pull the trigger with the man from the U. Fournette scares me with his running style in the NFL along with being dinged an awful lot. So its Howard for me, but I would not at all be disappointed with Adams.

or that we can get a really good TE later on,
We've been saying that for ... how many years? And when was the last time they did it?
You're right, Howard is the real deal. Why wait one minute longer?

I can agree with this list for picking at #6. I would like to see a trade down to somewhere between 12-18 though

For the record, Old, I don't mean to suggest we would pick all of the players on that list, only that those are the value picks at 6 from which we'll most likely consider. Like you I would scratch Allen, but I'm pretty high on Lattimore and Fournette. My pick, as you know, would be Howard if he's there for us. We're on the same page.

Lattimore has dee Milliner 2.0 written all over him. always hurt in college, only started 13 games in his career, and then re-injured his oft injured hammy at the combine. THAT is the definition of a gamble.

Hooker I think id prefer because hes a ball hawk free safety and the top safety prospect to come out in the last several years. But he also had surgery so who knows. That being said, I think if Fournette and Howard are there there is a decent possibility one of those 2 will be the pick. Will be interesting to see if Fournette, Howard, Trubisky, Watson are all on the board at 6 who we pick. Knowing us well pass on the next AP and the next great TE for another bust of a qb

I heard an interview on the radio with Malik Hooker this morning, and he's a standup guy. He came from a very rough upbringing and learned a lot of great lessons from his hard working mother. He said all the right things, and it wasn't phony or contrived. This guy is solid.

One thing that stuck with me was this comment: "Any NFL team that drafts me, it's a great honor. I will reward you with hard work, dedication, and give you everything I've got in return. I love the game, and take preparation very seriously".

I would seriously consider Hooker at #6.

Adams, Hooker, Howard are the 3 players I would be ecstatic with if we take one of them

Honestly Blind, Hooker would be one of my TOP 3 with Howard and Fournette if he wasn't coming off surgery. The same was true of Dee Milliner when we drafted him and its turned into a disaster. That really spooked me about drafting injured players in the first round, but I'm all for taking Sidney Jones in RD 2 if he's there.

That said, I love the player and I won't complain, AT ALL, if Hooker is the pick.

He talked about the rehab, too. Said he's been working at OSU facility and Athletes First in California, and the rehab is on track for full recovery. He played through two injuries, including a hip injury, in his last bowl game. His coach at OSU said most players wouldn't have risked it being a highly touted prospect. But Hooker played through it. That's impressive. He said "my team matters more to me than my draft status".

Hooker would be a great pick. Couple him with a potential #1 corner and the defense will be much improved. Add a potential replacement for David Harris and it will be a very successful draft. We all know this team won't be very good next year but the goal for this offseason should be to make this defense close to elite, which is achievable. If we lose 13-14 games this season by an average score of 9-6 with a top 3 pick in the draft and $80mm in cap space next season, there will be a lot of excitement in 2018.
