Should the Jets bring back Geno Smith in 2017?

It’s no secret that the history and well, the relationship between both the Jets and Smith have been a rocky one... Smith has always done his best to hone his craft each and every off-season but unfortunately, immaturity and bad decisions will ultimately be what defines him...

Frustration isn’t easily handled by everyone but again, Smith never really got a chance to play with top talent around him and every time he played, left much to the imagination...

His off-the-field distractions also didn’t put him in a great position with higher-ups, either... It’s unsure what kind of offers await Smith should he hit free agency but it’s safe to say that the Jets will likely not retain his services for 2017 or will they?

In my opinion, if the Jets do not get any QB that they think can start on day one, whether in the draft or in free agency, then you have to bring in Geno to compete with Petty and Hackenberg.

If, as reported, we truly did give up on Hack already...why not throw him into the fire and name him the starter going into 2017? 1 of 2 things will happen if this were to occur..if we refuse to allow him to compete to start, wouldn't that signal we DO NOT want to ruin him and hence think that he can possibly, maybe be the answer for us down the road?

1. He stinks up the joint and we go 2-14, get the top pick and can take a true franchise qb.
2. He progresses and shows promise, and we still finish 5-11/6-10 and have a solid pick to continue the rebuild.

Geno never got a chance to play here. He is very talented but unfortunately, his immaturity has rendered him a bit undesirable. My guess is that his college teammates did not go to his birthday party either.

Bringing him back, however, depends a lot on his price against whatever else is available, which is very little. They're gonna need somebody unless they go 100% wildcat

This means no need for a waste of time & money on Hackenburg who shouldnt been drafted. Too bad Mikey Mac got fooled by teams & his scouts should be FIRED for reporting Hackenburg was advanced. Cut Hack? You guys are really losing it. The kid hasn't even had any playing time and you want to cut him....JET fans. If we had the best qb in the league we would still look like dogsh*t.
We should keep the qbs we have, they are cheap right now, and build an offensive line to go along with an impressive group of very young receivers that we have. A young RB would also help.
Defense still needs cb's and linebacker depth.
Our coaches are some of the very worst and least experienced in the NFL and the management has decided that they will live with the coaching staff all learning their craft at our expense. It isn't happening with a couple draft moves.
Geno is not very good but he is a journeyman that comes cheap (most likely) and a good 2nd or 3rd veteran option. He has been beaten into submission and I believe he will "toe the line".

actually, it would cost the jets $1.85 million against the cap to cut hack (~$800K more than keeping him) and then you have to pay geno (minimum of $775K). so no, it would not save money.

no one knows what hack can do. we have seen geno and the results, on the field and off, have not been good.

I've been a Geno supporter since he's been here, until jawbreak gate. I think any long time JFU or scout.com poster would know that but it's time to turn the page on this one. Geno just doesn't have it, it's just that simple. Fitzgarbage is the worst, so of course I hope they never let him in the building again. Petty I'm not sold on at all, despite his arm strength and talent but I understand them bringing him back. Hack is my only hope at this point or them drafting another QB. Picking up a vet like Romo I'm with for 2-3 years, only if all else fails or seems it will fail with Hack or another rookie. Hopefully not but I'll even go the Cutler route for a year or two until we hopefully get a real franchise QB in the mix.

Despite my defense of Geno for what I believed to be some unfair criticism, I think it's time for the Jets to move on. He can probably land a backup somewhere else. The Jets need to find their franchise QB.

no more fill-ins, 2017 is going to be another bad year because of the very limited CS abilities.... Play the kids and take the lumps, see what we have. I can live with that and I been watching the team a very LOOOOOONG time.
