Zach Sudfeld under CBA is a RFA and will get a 1 year tender which is not guaranteed if waived before week 1 of the season...
So it makes sense to offer him that tender which would be the 4th year for Zach in the league...
Signing him keeps the door open to trade him... But like many of you guys said it will be up to him to carve a role out worth keeping him for the season...

Macc interviewed 8 players at the Senior Bowl. 4 edge rushers, and 4 QB's according to reports. (scouting staff has talked to others) Some one better tell him he can't do that
So that is a statement about Petty, not a backup QB

Nope, Petty will definitely be on the team next year. smith has about .05% chance to be. They will need a cheap 3rd string QB to replace smith.
Plus Macc is an unapologetic admirer of Ron Wolf who's strong philosophy was to draft a QB every year until you find one.
If the Jets draft Wentz at 20, who is one of the QB's Macc interviewed, that will have an impact on Petty
don't let Maccagnan's actions get you guys up in arms, he is a college scout and knows the game of misdirection especially now he is in the big chief role... will we draft a QB, yes but not until day 3 of the draft and may hope one or two individuals fall out of the draft and we can sign them to UDFA contracts instead...
There is zero chance that the have no doubts about Petty. The front office seems rather rational. What's an optimistic probability that Petty becomes a solid or better NFL QB - 50%. It sure isnt 80 or 90%.
Therefore, if a QB is available at a time that makes him a good investment - the best available investment - they would go for him. That doesnt mean they have soured on Petty. All it would tell us is that they are not drunken fools.

The great thing about drafting a guy to be a #3 QB is that many times, they ride the pine and their value actually increases. A agree 100% about drafting a QB (but only every other year). It keeps your backup sharp and maybe you catch lightning in a bottle one day.

Macc has made it clear how he feels about Petty. They are happy with his progress, he has the tools to be a #2, or a starter. He has to prove it in camp next year. On smith he said, he's under contract. HMMMMM
Petty is a 4th round pick from a spread offensive. Not a high 1st round pick.
Macc has said repeatably that he will select BAP. It makes a ton of sense if a QB falls, and the Jets feel he is BAP, doesn't matter if it's the 1st round, or the 7th, they will select him. Macc proved he wasn't BS'ing last year when Williams fell. A position they are loaded at. White was still on the board at a position they still had concerns about, WR.
The Jets went BAP. Think Macc will be true to his word. if Wentz is BAP in the 1st, he'll be a Jet. If Sudfeld is BAP in the 7th, he'll be a Jet
Just the smart thing to do. Only having 6 picks isn't an excuse to take an inferior player. That's what ex-GM's do.
EDIT: Besides once smith is shown the door, they'll probably have 7 picks again. Think they'll get their 6th back for him

There's never been a single second that this guy isn't all butt hurt by the things I post. You know I never knew the guy on Jetsinsider, just knew of him. Then when he started getting all pissy with anything I posted on this site, he talked about the ignore feature and how much he liked it. Well, isn't it rather obvious that he's my number 1 fan? He talked about ignore, but never actually did it. This guy LOVES what I have to say.
On top of that, he tried to make a bet with me about who was a Jet fan longer. He tried under the guise of him actually knowing me and a little of my background when he knew I didn't really know him and couldn't have cared less. He got supreme mouth and attempted to lock me into a $500 bet so he could APPEAR to getting the better of me.
Then I called him out on his scheme and he got quiet, but only for a very short time. Now he's back to his PMS ways and I'm just waiting for what he'll pull next.
But it is obvious to me he must be my number 1 fan. That guy is in love with me. Really, really creepy and weird.
Straight line speed is not really a problem with injuries like this. The question is will agility and cutting. Regaining confidence is a big part of this.

I'm excited to see petty in pre season again. He certainly has tools that excite you, and getting some time to mature can only benefit him. I think he will wind up being a steal in the 4th.
Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't a story come out about picking Williams, that mac tried trading back but couldn't get a deal done?

I've seen posters on boards say that, but can't recall anyone viable actually reporting it.
Back to Sudfeld. Good kid, good teammate, but has shown limited flashes when the lights are on. Unless he can be a demon on ST, the Jets should probably move on.
