Should the Jets trade CJ Mosley?

Simple look at his contract shows there is an out for the Jets to make here but it will be hefty one in cost of dollars already doled out to the 28 year old middle linebacker... To this point he has played one game in two seasons and has collected $23 Million of his $85 Million dollar contract... Due to covid he opted out of the 2020 season but after he received his roster bonus of $10 M... Now his contract has been pushed back a year and his 2021 contract consists of a total salary of $7.5 Million...

So how can we trade him?

There is no way to cut him pre or post June...
But there is a way to trade him post June move... Where the team will eat an additional $6 Million in dead loss of four years not to mention already paying out $23 Million for no services rendered... Would make the team a laughing stock from Trumaine Johnson, Pierre Desir and now another player stealing money without contributing to the team...

Remember when he comes back, or if he comes back he will be one year older and who knows if he has really been keeping up with conditioning...

But in the end the team may consider to move him knowing with a new coaching staff and the sought out new scheme that he may fit but is not needed...

Sometimes it is smart to move on and move past problem situations before they turn into bigger headaches...

What is he worth right now? If lucky a 4th round pick...

who's CJ Mosley?
just another awful free agent signing by former GM Mike Maccagnan, apparently that is what he was good at giving away free money....

no reason to keep giving it away to a player who doesn't want to play in New York...

oh yeah........ that guy we got from the Ravens 2 years ago that played half a game for us. great signing. he did look good for that half. actually, I should give him a little more credit. didn't he make an attempt to play a little at the end of that season?.

cursed, we are

problem is, not many teams are in the market for a guy who doesn't play. don't think we'll get much

The answer is no. Too big of a cap hit when this team needs all the resources it can get. See what he has left and play him. If he sucks let him go after the season when they at least get like 5mil in cap space.

He looked great for that quarter he was on the pitch (as opposed to Bell who never looked great at any time). And there is no doubt that his groin should have healed by now. But he is two years older, so the coaching staff are going to have to assess how much he has left in the tank. MLBs can play to an advanced age though.

so saving $46 Million on a trade only eating another $6 M after spending $23 up to now is too much of a cap hit... let him stay and keep eating for free, okay yeah that makes sense...

Releasing him would be a 13 mil cap hit plus 20mil in dead money. Not too smart. You wait until next season and those #'s are cut in half. Look I'm not advocating for Mosley here, just pointing out that the cap hit is more palatable if you wait a season. Who knows? The guy could return to form...or not. Either way you're going to be paying for him one way or the other.

That's cool with me. I love the idea of putting him in the Watson offer but don't know how doable that would be. The thing is I'm tired of watching guys suck here and then magically regain their former level of play for another team. I think Saleh could get this guy going and be the guy the Jets thought they signed. I would see what he looks like in TC before trading him outright. Of course if he is a piece of a larger trade I have no problem with that.
