Let's pretend that you are an equal fan of the Jets and the Browns.

After what you saw last season and during the off season so far, which team and which quarterback are you more excited about going forward?

Gotta give my input on this and thank you so much for starting a thread like this. No reason to include Lamar Jackson and the Ravens or Josh Rosen and the Dolphins at this point, I believe. However; Josh Allen and the Bills might be a dark horse to rise equally or as close as possible with Darnold and Mayfield and their teams. Getting back to your question I’m ofcourse more excited about our guy and our Jets but I can’t necessarily say that I see our team as being better of having a brighter future over the Browns. Darnold is 3 years younger and showed signs last year that he can be a great QB. Yes his overall play was average but those last 4-5 games he played were very impressive. With a team of mostly misfits. Enunwa was hurt, all their main RBs were hurt and the oline was average at best or maybe slightly below. All Darnold had was a rookie TE in Herndon and Anderson last year.

With all the moves the Jets have made this year you have to think that Darnold’s jump will be significantly better. It’s not just the players they’ve acquired by trade, draft or free agency but the coaching and front office now. Gase should evaluate Darnold’s game with these weapons by leaps and bounds. A Gregg Williams defense with the players he has will be SCARY!!! My only true concern is the cornerbacks and hopefully they figure that out. Back to the players, imagine what players like Bell, Montgomery, Crowder, Wesco and healthy Enunwa will do for him. On top of the players he had last year in Herndon, Anderson, Burnett and McGuire. Not guaranteeing that he will but Darnold has the ability and chances of doubling the numbers he did last year, with all this help. Excluding doubling the ints ofcourse.

Now the flip side to this is our team compared to the Browns. Man the Browns have a chance to be very good and very scary for a very long time. Not saying the Jets don’t but damn the Browns did very well this off season. As great as the Jets have done this off season the Browns have done better, IMO! Our WRs don’t compare to theirs and that is simple undebatable and undeniable. We have Bell and that is better then any RB they have but they have three running backs combined that are hard to compete with. They have an excellent young TE core and their defense will be on fire for years to come. Especially the secondary. Their cornerbacks will probably be the best combo or trio in the league and that is where we are the weakest at. Last is their QB and we know what Mayfield can do. I’d take Darnold over him but not by much.

Only area where I’m hoping we clearly have the edge is at coaching and front office and that is debatable at this point. Only time will tell on that one. So I’ll take Darnold’s future or Mayfield but I have to take the Browns future over our Jets at this point. Sorry but I have to keep it real!

^^^I agree but I have a feeling that the Browns will be Browns and a new HC usually has to "fail" before they rise... Wouldn't be surprised if the Jets compete this year and go on a run the following year... I think this is the year for the Browns if any

A lot of you guys see way more than I see. For me, the past lifetime of Jet seasons are just a jumble of " we stink". In fact, for me, the past 20 years have been "the cheatah s won the superbowl and we stink... And the 30 before that were just " we stink". Yeah, there were some high points(Parcells and, for me, to a lesser extent, Rex, but not many in 50 years since I was 3 years old and we won the superbowl.

So, that said, for me, it's hard to see past, "we stink". Probably or hopefully, why I wasn't as excited about Darnold's play last year as some of you. Also, if I remember, the last few games weren't televised here.

I just hope this season is different. So many new pieces. The culture needs an immediate change, and for that we need to win early. Given, the early schedule, that will be tough.

I hope in 20 years, we're all saying how smart or lucky it was to draft Darnold and not have gotten Mayfield, but year 1 at least proved different, I think. And the Browns have stunk as long as the Jets. Chances are they both bleep this up.:global (11):

Nice evaluation. I'm gonna hope you're right about Darnold and I'll add that his greatness, If he lives up to it, is directly tied to how great the Jets can be, so let's hope they both live up to our hopes. It would be about damn time
